Texas Jen,
I have not seen you posting any lately. Are you ok? I sort of felt like you were not doing so good since we haven't heard from you. We miss your humor and wealth of info. Hope you can get back to posting soon.....Susie

How weird is it that I've been away forever, and checked in just in time for this post to be on the front page?! I'm hanging in there health-wise, but mostly have been busy with my animals. Our old dog was in end-stage renal failure last fall, and we lost her on January 4. It took a lot of heavy duty nursing to keep her going and comfortable knowing there was nothing more we could do for her.

On Dec. 20, we rescued a parrot who flew in to our next-door-neighbor's tree. We still haven't found his owners so it appears he has a new home with us. Maybe God sent him to us just as we were losing our dog. Who knows? :-)

On top of all that, our other dog made it clear she didn't like being the sole canine of the house. We had no intention of getting another dog so soon, but the powers that be had other plans. On Jan. 14 we adopted a Dalmation from a local rescue organization. He's such a sweet boy and is about 2 years old. We've been working with him since day 1 and he quickly learned the house rules from not only us, but with our other dog's help as well. Both dogs play and work so well together it's as if they've known each other since birth.

Thanks for asking about me, and I'll try to make it a point to check in more often. :-)

Sorry Jen its taking me so long to reply. I have really been sick. I finally cratered and went to my PCP today, bless her heart she just keeps plugging with me. Long & short is November 26 I was put in the hospital for 8 days due to cellulitis in my legs, The right leg was just one big blister, totally covered from the knee down to the ankle. When released I did 10 more days of IV vancomycin thru my portacath. This past Sat I wake up and my right ankle is red, hot swollen and throbbing. It was all I could do to hobble. I went to bed Sat nite and did not wake up again until Sunday nite at 7:00pm. I lost a day. My hubby is yelling upstairs to get up and I can't. I have laid in the bed so long if I tried to move my body screamed in pain. He had to come upstairs and get me out of bed. I stood there a minute trying to get my head on right. I am soaked and so are the bed sheets and I am freezing and shaking. He put me some clean sheets on the bed and dry pjs. He came up with a broth type soup I tried to sip it but no go. I get the tylenol out, the Zofran and a 1/2 of a muscle relaxer to get the kinks & cramps out of my body. Monday was the same scenario.

She checked me for type A which was negative, still running a temp, cellulitis is trying to rear its ugly head again, now both legs red and swollen. She said I should not be getting cellulits again so soon after the mega drug I was on. So off to the lab at the hospital so theycan do cultures. Meanwhile, she has made a call to an infectious disease dr who is seeing me Thursday afternoon. Gosh how drs have clout amongst each other. Anyway, the FDA recalled all the heparin & saline solutions from an outfit in NC due to be contaminated with a bacteria named Serratia Marcescens. Yes, I am being tested for that one too, because I still had some syringes left over and they had the same lot #.

Infectious diease guy is thinking I may have infection in my port a cath and that could very well be. I did everything the home health nurse showed me on cleaning everything with alcohol before infusing the drug.

I really don't care what it is, just get rid of it. I have not felt well since November when put in the hospital. I have ran a low grade fever way too long. But now its high enough to not be considered low grade.

I can see you have been very busy with your babies. I am so sorry to hear of you losing one. I lost one of my golden retrievers recently, he was old and wore out, but what a baby he was to us. Its so hard. I also lost one of my cats a week before Willy. I still have one golden left but he is about 11 now. Hubby went to Mineral Wells and bought a Britney Spaniel that was almost 3 months old. He is a rascal and terror all in one neat package. I have a blast watching him point a bird, never knew he could be still enough to do that.lol.

Glad to know you are ok. Susie
