wondering if anyone has had surgery for something other than a back problem and was already under pain management for their back and how was the surgical pain managed. especially if you're on large doses of pain meds.

Welcome Boater. I've also had surgeries unrelated to my back pain and at a hospital in a different town from where my pain doc is. In each case, I had informed the doc in advance of my CP and provided a list of meds I was on. The hospital managed my post-operative pain very well even though it required "enough fentanyl to drop an elephant" according to one of the nurses. tongue (She was amazed that I was still coherent!)

Thanks so much for answering, i won't be able to take anything by mouth for a few days and obviously need to have a substitute for my regular pain med in addition to controlling my surgical pain. the info from ryand made me feel better, that my pain could be managed. only someone who takes stuff can understand my deep concerns (fears??) regarding the pain management. thank you all so much
