I have been DX with DDD. Bulging disc from t12 down too S1, typically i have chronic pain everyday which for the most part i have tried getting used it with little help from Tylenol #3 and on occasion oxycodone. But here's the problem, last week i shovled our drive way, done alot of other lifting that i probably shouldn;t and now the pain is worse, has been about a week long but each day seems to bring on more pain could i have herniated of fractured? When i had my last MRI scan done it indicated that i had i mild compression of the subachnoid whereever that is i know what compression is maybe i really did something and made it worse. I have read several articles and tried to find symtoms that match mine but there are so many that i have i don;t know were to start. Stabbing, burning, leg pain, some mild swelling the list goes on, I think i am going to go to the ER tommorow and see what a doc says, maybe i can get a CT scan to see were the problem is. If anyone ever had a experince like this please respond thanks in advance Twiggy2.

There are many things which can go wrong with our spines and cause an increase in symptoms. Shoveling is one of the worst activities we can do, but I confess I've had to do a little myself this year - sometimes there's just no choice. I think you need to be checked out by your doctor or the ER - depending on how serious things are. It may be muscles which need help from a physical therapist, but you've got a lot going on so you should get a medical opinion to make sure you've not done something more serious.

Hello Twiggy!

I also did one of those crazy shoveling days a week or so ago myself.

I would be the first to say going to the ER and this is not my usual place to refer anyone,is a good idea. It sounds as if something could have gotten in a bind in some way. That stabbing burning kind of pain is usually associated with nerves in some way and that usually comes about when they are pinched off or compromised in some way. A Ct or possible MRI can find the culprit pretty quick.

Do you have a regular back Dock or PM Doc and if so it may get you faster and better care to try to make an appointment with them letting them know how much pain your in and the circumstances that brought it on.

Whichever way you go I certainly hope you get some relief soon and answers even faster.

Twiggy, I would seek medical advice eithier go to the er or your own dr. Like the pp anything could be wrong with your back.  I would seek help from a health professional to find out. I hope your pain lessens and you get the help you need.

Thanks all kara what is pp mean sorry but yeah i too think it's nerve related. I went out to walmart the other day with the family and could't stand without pain after being in there for like 15 min. I started leaning on things just to get through and last night at work was horrible. the pain was comng and going especially when kust walking i was feeling pain, not a good sign. I will let you guys know what the outcome is. Thanks again needed the push to go bit stubborn and i always say to myself that it;ll go away it;s not that bad have you guys done that, i just think that they will not listen to me and blow me off and send me home with follow up with your PC anyway venting talk later Twiggy2.

Hey Kara, wouldnt it be nice to have a sticky of sorts for new users at the top of the page with a guide of sorts for abbreviations?

Sure would make it easier for alot of folks new to posting and new to computer world wouldnt it?

There are far more then we realize and especially in a medical forum with all of the abbreviations we use for meds,DX,and tests. I recall what a tme I had when first coming to the forums years ago and it makes it real difficult to understand responses when we dont know what the abbreviations stand for. Discourages alot of folks I would think.
