Hi everyone, I've been thinking about posting here for a while, but never built up the courage to until now. I have chronic eye pain resulting from a severe injury to my eye a year and a half ago. I've been through the ringer in terms of tests & medications. I now finally have a diagnosis about mechanical origin of the pain, but so far I have been unsuccessful finding a treatment that works. Although acupuncture is starting to provide a few brief breaks in the pain. My pain doc suggested trying a stellate ganglion block. I've given serious thought to it and was planning on trying it if the acupuncture failed. Sometimes the acupuncture makes a differnce, but only for a few hours the following day -- usually in the morning when my pain is generally at its best, it does nothing at night when the pain is the worst.

Has anyone ever had this type of block done before? I've never had a nerve block done before except a failed needleless sphenopallantine block. I have to decide soon because I know that when I go back to college the pain is only going to get much worse from additional eye strain, stress, and lack of sleeping even worse than the little sleep my eye allows me now. And I'm not going to have much time to have a block done.

What are nerve blocks like? Do they generally seem to help? Thanks.

Hello and welcome: You mentioned a eye injury ? is the block Your referring to going into Your neck? stellate ganglion blocks are usually injected at c7 and c6 . this injection is usually used for RSD problems. Never heard of RSD of the eye
I am confused, perhaps i am reading wrong, my entire neck is fused and i have had blocks after blocks they never worked for me other than taking away some headaches but some people swear by them.
Just a note when i get severe headaches from the neck pain it does bother my eye's so ?? Please advise.

Dear Caninesupport,
I wanted to welcome you to the HW forum. While I've had lots of epidurals and spine injections and nerve blocks, I've not any to the neck or head region. I hope some others here possibly can contribute their experiences for you.

You may want to do some research on and medline, the latter of which is the source to medical journal info. Then you might see what the research says for your parituclar diagnosis. Many of these procedures, however, are so variable that what works for one person doesn't for the other.

Wish I could help more, but I can be here for support. I'm glad you finally decided to post.

I don't know if this applies to you specifically, but I wanted to forward you a website that might be of value. Hope it helps. Keep posting.

Hi Canine welcome to the HW support forum. I too do not have any info that will help you but just wanted to welcome you to our growing (it seems to me) forum for those who have CP. Its sad to think that you have to join us here, but you will find many useful guides to aide you on your journey through the pain.

I have however had nerve blocks, as well as one freezing of the nerves at S1-L3 never worked as far as calming the pain, but then again nerve blocks are so individual in their results (imho) that some don't get the benefits from their help. Hope you can find a solution to your pain and I am praying for you for quick results.

Until my next post....

Yours truly in CP
