Hello HW friends,

I'd like to reach out to you all for some support. I'm just having one of those terrible weeks. I was so sick last weekend from a combo of the build up of side-effects from my meds & a brief period of withdrawl from having to stop the meds for several days to get over the extreme sedation they caused. My pain levels have been way up the last few days & since we are still trying to get me squared away on a good maintenance dosage, my meds are not touching it. I feel like someone is stabbing me in the eye right now. It was so bad last night, that I was crying while driving home & almost had to turn around. I'm not sleeping at all. I'm not eating. I literally just want to take my eye out, although I know that would do no good.

And on top of all this, my 2mo old computer died last week, and I got it back today only to find that the hard-drive had been replaced, and I lost EVERYTHING. Three months worth of research (which was soooo hard to do because of my eye) for a huge paper due next week, important notes that I had written to doctors & my school about my condition & I wanted to keep on file. Everything. I'm just so upset because multiple technicians that looked at my computer/spoke to me on the phone last week told me that it was NOT a hard drive problem, and that my hard drive appeared to be intact. If I had known that they were going to have to replace it, I would have paid to have the apple store try to salvage my info from my old computer, but everyone told me not to lister. Stupid me, I listened to them, and I hadn't yet got around to buying a external hard drive since the computer was brand new. nono I didn't have the money when I bought it, and I figured I'd be safe for at least a few months until I could save enough money to buy one. Lesson learned all too well. This is just one more thing I don't need. I feel like someone is out to get me. shakehead

Thanks everyone. I hope everyone is having a pain free day.

Wow, it has been a rough week for you! I wish I could wave a magic wand and make it all better! Did you ask the people who fixed your pc if they still have the hard drive? Some places can pull info from that physical drive itself.

In the United States today, there is a pervasive tendency to treat children as adults, and adults as children. The options of children are thus steadily expanded, while those of adults are progressively constricted. The result is unruly children and childish adults. ~Thomas Szasz

I think we all need magic wands!

And yes, I spend several hours on the phone today with about 4 different people from different departments at Apple Support, and there is no hope of getting the drive back. That was my first thought as well -- if they still had the drive, I might still be able to get the info. But I guess literally thousands of damaged drives get thrown together & there would be no way to track mine down. sad

I'm sad to hear what a lousy week you're having. I'm sending a big hug, although I know it doesn't help a lot. Sometiems it does feel like everything happens at once, one thing on top of another. And in truth sometimes they really DO happen that way, just like you'vve had this week.

I hope first you can get a little rest of some type. I think you've mentioned this in other threads but I'd try getting in touch with your doctor for at least something to help you sleep, if that's at all possible. Heck, eat the entire bag of M&M's if it helps!!

Mac's are so great, I also wonder if they erased your hard drive or replaced it. Either way, I'd call the apple tech and see if there's any way you can retrieve the data. If the answer is no, then vent as much as you want here, cry (although maybe that causes more pain), scream at the wall, punch a pillow, call a friend, and do whatever you need to get it out of your system for now. Then in a couple of days you can think about how you might be able to re-do some of the research; at least maybe it won't take you quite as long this time, and we all learn the hard way to back up (although I never do anymore as i'm not working, but my tendency was just to always print out hard copies which makes for a ton of paper all around).

Anyway, we're here. And listening.

Thanks so much PAlady! The hug you sent does help! I am out of M&M's, so I turned to Ben & Jerry's Chocolate Fudge Brownie ice cream instead smilewinkgrin.

This is my first mac, and other than this latest situation, I have loved my computer. I did speak to 3 or 4 techs yesterday. They said that they did replace the hard drive & that there is no way to to get the old one or its data back sad. But I eventually complained to enough people that they gave me a free wireless router. It doesn't come anywhere near to replacing the data, but at least they acknowledged the situation & tried to make it a little better.

Hopefully I will get some sleep tonight. Not sleeping definitely makes pain & everything else worse!

Hi Mala,

Thanks for listening & thanks for your support! I have severe chronic eye pain from a bad injury I sustained 2yrs ago. We think the pain is from inflammation & scar tissue compressing the nerves behind my eye as well as damage to, or swelling within the nerves themselves. I've had a million tests, been to a bunch of specialist, but no one can tell me for sure. I'm hoping I'll get a more definitive answer from another neuropthalmologist that I am going to see next month, although unfortunately the likelihood of that is slim, since I've already been to two neuropthalmogists without much luck. But it has been over a year since I have last seen one, so I'm hoping something has changed. It basically feels like someone has grabbed the back of my eye, is squeezing it really tight and digging their fingers into it, it's definitely frustrating not knowing exactly why.
