Hey ya'll,

Just wanted to introduce myself.  I am a former nurse, and have been suffering from chronic pain and fibromyalgia since (I believe) I underwent Gastric Bypass surgery back in 2001.  Prior to that the only medical conditions I ever had were colds.  I am going thru some trying times right now and decided to go online for support due to the fact that I am pretty much a homebody now.  I go to a Pain Management doctor and my new Primary DR is a quack, LOL.  But anyways, glad to be here.

Good Morning and Welcome chrisherry

I know what you mean by being a homebody...sometimes I don't get out for a week at a time.  But I think it's from depression from Bipolar...It's hard to make myself get up, take a shower, put on makeup, do my hair.....But since I've been coming here it seems to be better.

Being a former nurse, you are aware that chronic pain and depression go hand in hand, and we have to work harder then most to be "normal".  Ha Ha  What's that really?

We are always here for you when you need us....and sometimes when you don't WANT us!!  But we are always willing to help if we can, and offer advice if we don't know the answer..

So, come back often.  Don't be a stranger....

((((((((((((HUGZ))))))))))))

Me.

Hi, Chrisherry,
Welcome to the CP forum of Healing Well. Always sorry to learn of another person in pain, but you have come to the right place for support.

And yes, I and many others here know about the increased isolation that comes with the territory.

Again, welcome!

Hi Sherry, I too wanted to welcome you to Healing Well. So sorry to hear of your fibro and I hope you can get some relief. My sister has it and I know when its flared up it gives her aot of grief. She is on Lyrica for it and feels that it does help.

You have come to the right place because chronic pain is something we all understand all too well.I do hope you will hang out with us, we really learn alot from each other. This is one place we can all come and everyone understands what we are talking about.

Many of don't get out away frm home very often except to go to a drs appt. Depression is something that goes hand in hand with pain. I have to admit if I did not have my chill pills I would be a mess. They help smooth out the rough edges.

You said your PCP is a quack. Hopefull you can seek out a new one thats more in tune to helping you. We have all on this forum had to kiss a few toads before we found our princes too, lol. Its scarey at times what we have encountered for drs.

I recently started seeing a new pain mgt dr and she is great. She is a retired neurosurgeon. I have a Medtronic Pain Pump and she accepts pump patients only. She has made such a difference in my pain its almost like its too good to be true. She recenlt did a pump refill and increased everything from the concentration amount to the 24 hour doseage and what a difference it has made for me is unbelieveable. My former dr quit practicing pain mgt and now I am glad he did after seeing this new dr. Its like she said, he was under educated in pain pump and in pain medication she was shocked at what the settings were on my pump, she said I may as well have not been getting anything from the pump because it was set so low. But, its like I told I had become use to the pain after so many years.

We hope to see some more posts from you.......Susie

Hey Sherry!

Nice to have you join our family!! I too am a homebody partly because that's just who I am and partly because of fibromyalgia pain along with other pain. So as you are starting to see we are a family of folks who truly understand.

I'm sorry to hear you have a rotten doc. Any way you can change? Maybe ask the pain management doc for a recommendation...on the side of course... <wink, wink> They don't really like to say anything good or bad about colleagues..but then who does I suppose. But if you trust him then he may be a good source of help. And since you have a medical background he may just help you out.

Being alone is very hard when you're in pain and I personally think it makes the pain worse. How long has it been since your surgery and the fibro pain that came along with it? It's common for fibro to be triggered by some insult to our system and surgery is one that will do it. For me it was the death of my 23 year old son. I was numb for nearly 2 years and when I started to rejoin life what I found was physical pain to add to the emotional pain. Do come over and join the fibro forum if you haven't. I spend a lot of time there too.

Hugs,
Chutzie

Greetings Chrisherry, welcome to the group. Kttn is so right about the people you find on this forum. I have only been here a short time but it has been extremely helpful. We are all here dealing with some of the same issues but we are all unique and that is what has added depth and reassurance for me. I also know that no matter what time of day or night, someone is available.

Hi chrisherry,

Welcome to the CP board of HW. I'm sorry that you are hear because you share this horrible affliction, but we are happy to welcome you to our family. Like the others have said, this is a wonderful place to come for support. Joining as a relative newcomer to CP, this forum has helped me so much to deal with my CP & the problems that come along with it. There really is no better place to come for understanding, advice, and hugs (albeit virtual) when you need them the most! Keep posting with us!

And fatherjohn is right, someone is almost always around if you need to talk. I haven't been on as much as I used to at night & in the wee hours of the morning, because my living situation has changed a bit, but many of us here, myself included, are major insomniacs. You probably know that it unfortunately comes with the territory!

OK, Sherry, I gotta ask - what's the story behind Pepperchick? Something tells me it's good! smilewinkgrin

If you don't want to share, that's ok, too!

Hey you guys,
thank you all for the warm welcome it really means alot to me!!

PaLady,
Long story LOL, I have always had a fascination with peppers, unfortunatly I cant eat them! My philosophy is they are beautiful on the outside but when you bite into them you never know what your going to get. Then one day I went out and got a chilipepper tattoo. A couple years later I went and got another, hehe.

Here is a link to my website (that hasnt been updated for a looong time), but under pics you can find a picture of my pepper!
(If it's not allowed and gets deleted I understand)
Thanks for asking!

I would just like to also welcome you to HW Sherry. I have been reading a few of your posts since you have been here and I think you are a very strong person from what I can tell. I do hope that you will hang around with us awhile even though if you get the chance to get some pain relief from this hell we call CP....I say good for you and RUN! ha ha ha! I think my sense of humor is warped in the wee hours of the morning cause I always come up with real strange topics or posts to write about and usually either stun everyone or make them think I'm ready for the loony bin. Anyway I just wanted to welcome you aboard and I look forward to your posts.

Hugs
