I have a new symptom that zaps me all day and sometimes at night.  It feels like I burned the left side of my left thigh in a 5 X 8 inch area..  I'm hoping this is healing from when that area and the back of my thigh became numb before emergency surgery. 

Oral pain meds don't help.  I'm applying Lidocaine Patches that were prescribed 2 years ago for the same type of pain.  But they don't do much to quell it.  I plan on going back to the pain center if it doesn't ease-up in a week or two.

EMG showed that the nerves were still healing (after 3 years) when administered a few months ago.

By the way, I have a hard time reading this forum without weeping.

Welcome to the HealingWell CP Forum! I am sorry that your here, and in pain, but am glad you found us! I don't think you could have found a better place to come if you are having problems with pain! We are not Doctors and we sure can't fix you, but we can listen and support you and let you know that you are not alone with your pain! Sometimes that alone is a real comfort!

Are you seeing a Pain Specialist, or have anybody helping you manage your pain? That would be my first recommendation, is to talk with your doctor and request a referral to a pain clinic, and see what they can do for you, to help you get your pain under control! There are other things you can do and I am sure that the other people here at this forum will be chiming in an giving you many other helpfull suggestions! We have a Great group of people here, I am glad your here to join us, and hope that you will stay around , and be part of our family!

Did I read that right? You are using Lidocaine patches that are around 2 years old? If so it is no wonder they are not doing any good as medications loose their potency after a period of time. How long depends on the med and how it was packaged.

IMHO there is no reason to wait to go see your doctor or the pain clinic. Call and make an appointment for as soon as you can get in. One thing about pain is that the longer it lasts the longer it takes to go away and the more susceptible you become to pain (meaning the more intensely you will feel pain).

WB - I see a physiatrist at the Capitol Spine and Pain center quarterly, and I get 2-3 epidural/nerve block shots a year.
Jim: The Lidocaine patches are sealed like wet naps, and have an expiration date of 02/10

The burning has already eased some. I think it's just the nerves letting me know they are healing. Trouble is, after they are crushed they heal like roads with pot holes. I think this would be classified as peripheral neuropathy. Thanks for listening (reading).
