I discovered something the otherday that I didn't know about our Forum which will slightly change the way I post here in the future! As some of you know, I now live with my wife 4 hours away from where I had lived for the past 24 years. Part of the relocating proccess includes finding new doctors so that hopefully soon, I will not have to make the trip south once a month and spend a whole day driving around to see all my dr's in one day. So while Googling and looking for a new doc, I used the word hypogonadism, which is one of my medical problems. To my surprise, up pops my post from healing well!! Google had picked up the word from my signiture at the bottom of my post where it says Hypogonadizm!! Now don't get me wrong, I know that this is a public Forum and anyone can come here and read what we say but I think sometimes we don't realize exactly how out in the open we place ourselves  while posting about our personal lives. I have always had my email listed behind my name for any member to see and write me if they needed to. I have since taken it off there as it contains my last name and could set me up for some big problems with my social security disability clain if they (the SSD people) did some research and found my posts about my driving to new England and putting electric in my new barn! I admit that I am doing these things which I shouldn't be doing and writing about them here in our forum where people know me and know that I push myself way too hard and that body suffers unnessasary pain levels  for doing so!! They could easilly put 2 + 2 together and my claim would go right out the window! I honestly don't believe I am in anyway taking advantage of the system by applying for SSD as I have worked in pain for way too many years and my doctors agree with me but I can't change who I am or how I live my life so much that it's not worth living anymore! I have cut way back on the things I do since I left my job and I'm much healthier for it but by no means am I back to the person I was before CP and the rest of my health issues!!!!
OK, sorry for blabbing on and on! I just thought if there were any of you out there who are almost as ignorant as I, you may want to change the way you post to forums online!! Sometimes we get so wrapped up in our thoughts and begin posting very personal things because we truely want to help each other but just remember that ""Big Brother is watching You!""
Love and prayers to All Y'all!!!

Wow Pete,
Thanks for the post.  I never realized that either.  That is something else.  I will be cautious in the future as well.
Glad to hear from you.  I hope all is going well in your life.  God bless.

I understand fully what you are saying Pete. I've turned my email off recently but it doesn't have my name in it but if people look at my pictures it has my first name. Time to tickle-lock the old lips I guess.

You're absolutely right. I've googled things and had some of my posts pop up. It's one reason I don't have an e-mail listed, and sometimes don't discuss certain things here, yet I've forgotten at times and put too much out there. I know we feel comfortable with the others who are posting, but lots of people are just reading (most of them quite innocently) but yep, if you're looking for a job or applying for SSD or any of those things anyone can google you. It's one of the reasons they advice a lot of college students to watch what they put on facebook and similar sites because employers ARE checking these things out. Gee, if our social security numbers and the like can be hacked into I guess anything is possible!

It's actually one of the things that scares me (on a related theme) about all the appilcations I'm having to do for low cost prescription programs, low cost health insurance, and various government programs. EVERYONE demands my taxes, and even more. Yet, there's nothing I can do because I need these things desperately. I just wonder how many data bases my SSN and DOB are in now, and I almost figure it's just a matter of time before I'm the victim of identity theft. Course I have no money for them to steal!! LOL I wish they'd steal my debt!!!

Anyway, good post, Pete, and a good reminder for us all. BTW, if you want to e-mail people, does your e-mail provider allow for more than one name? Then you could make one up. Just a thought.

p.s. Pete you also may want to edit or delete some of the info. in your profile. I clicked on your name and saw there's a lot of identifying info. there, especially while you're applying for SSD.

If your email provider doesn't allow for a second, non-identifying account, there are tons of free email providers that do and most don't require any personal information. :-)

Excellent Post Pete! I think you would be surprised at how much information can be obtained about a person just by using the internet. just try googling a persons phone number. But you are right about things that you post! And it is very easy to forget about that when posting about things here with your friends! Anyway I guess this is the future of things, for good or for bad!

Just a note: the forums are public, and anyone can read them. Only members who are logged in can see the profile section. That's why the moderators encourage you to put your address there if you want people to be able to reach you, instead of in your posts.

Thanks. But I think it's also important to point out anyone can join the forum, so even an employer or some legal entity seeking info. about a person could sign up, and thus see whatever we have in our profile. Plus, as Pete, Chutz and others have highlighted, just googling a topic or our name can often bring up posts. Thus, someone seeing the post and having more curiousity could sign up for Healing Well, and get any info. we have in our profile.

Sounds a bit paranoid, I know, but so many of us are involved in things like SSD or similar issues that it's at least worthy of consideration. Informed decision making never hurts!

Just MHO.
