I took my 4 year old sledding today. It was his first time and he had a blast. I really enjoyed watching him slide down the hill and the expression on his face when he came back up.

He really amazed me and made me very proud too in that he always brought his sled back up the hill himself and after telling him to always walk back up the sides so others could go down too I only had to remind him a few times. He also did very good at waiting for his turn to go down.

I am sure I am going to pay for it tomorrow since I managed to slip on some ice and landed pretty hard flat on my back, but it was fun for me too making sure he gets to enjoy and experience something like this.

They grow so fast and only get to be a kid once and I don't want him missing out on all of the fun, simple joys, that childhood has to offer if I can do anything at all about it.

Boy, do I remember those days of sleigh riding. A new sled for Christmas was the ultimate gift you know. You are so lucky your son gets to have this good old fashioned fun. We live in the part of the country where sleigh riding is out of question because of no snow or rather if we get it not enough to go sleigh riding on. I would love to see my 4 yr old grand son on a sled.

I do hope you will be able to get out of bed in the morning.

Hey Jim...

Your story made me miss the couple of years that we lived in Colorado... and all of the fun the boys had. They still talk about their time there almost every week. Sledding, skiing, hockey... lots of memories.

I'm so glad you had a good day watching your son... I pray that you don't have too much pain tomorrow.

Jim,
Glad you had a great time, although I prefer to be inside where it's warm! I do have these things called "get a grips" that I got on QVC (don't know if I can say that, if not a mod may edit it) that you put on the bottoms of your shoes to keep you from slipping. They are on the bottom of my winter boots at all times now, especially with all this ice and cold. So you might want to look into something like that to help keep your from falling. Falls can be so dangerous to us - that's how my problems started.

And Susie, just wait a bit. Your Texas Tornado may yet get enough snow to sleigh ride on!! LOL

I made it out of bed today, but just barely. Can really feel the muscles I pulled in that fall and my lower back is a little more sore today than yesterday as well.

Fun ? did I hear the word FUN??? Who is having fun? Got up this morning and at 7AM it was eleven below zero outside! Did I hear the worrd Fun???? There is snow everywhere and being out in the country there is lots of drifts and ice on ther roads, braved it all and went to church at 8 AM ( Boy was that "FUN"!) and then came home to huddle up in a blanket with a hot cup of coffee and I keep falling asleep while watching the Science Channel,( darn near spilled my Coffee!) Oh by the way did I hear the word 'FUN"?

I was talking to another Dad out there with his kids and made the comment that it was too bad they couldn't go snow sledding in July when it was 80 out.

And WB I feel your pain about the cold. It got down to -7 last night here with a -22 windchill. Even with the thermostat set at 72 the house still felt cold and I ended up wearing my thermals to bed under my sweats.
