Hi everyone! I'm not sure i'm in the right place but I hope so. I'm 33, female and live in the south of England. I suffer with bad Psoriatic Arthritis. I have it in my ankles, feet, wrists, fingers, back, right elbow and the tendons from my heel to back of knee on my right leg and just over the last couple of weeks getting pain in my shin splints. I have to wear wrist and thumb supports and ankle supports. I also have to walk with a stick. I am on depot steroid injections, oral steroids and just changed from oral Methotrexate to injections. For the pain I take Co dydramol and Tramadol. I take them alteratly at 2hrly intervals but sometimes it just doesn't cut it. I cover myself with hot water bottles and can go days on very little sleep due to the pain. Can anyone suggest anything? Would maybe a tens machine help? They have dual tens machines on offer at the moment in Lloyds. The mtx pills just didn't get absorbed so i'm hoping the injections will be more effective but it's too early to tell. So sorry to moan on in my first post but I look forward to talking with u all. Thank you!

   Dear Abol76,
Good morning. My name is Dani, and it is a pleasure to meet you. Welcome to the Healing Well Community. I hope you find that this is a very comfortable, relaxing place to be.
I am sorry your body is hurting in so many areas. I can tell plain as day, that it is all wearing you down. I know you mentioned a TeNS unit (I have one and love it) but becareful as sometimes TeNS (pain relief) and EMS (muscle stimulation) as confused as being the same thing. You can just ask your doctor for a "perscription" too. Sometimes they can help get newer models at very low cost.
You mentioned your pain med combination isnt working well, have you told your doctor about this? Have you ever tried adding in an anti-depressant? I ask because alot of us take antidepressants along with our pain med combinations and for alot of people it works rather well. Myself, I take one callled amitryptaline and it works very very well with my pain meds...thou additional monitoring and cautions is need with the one I mentioned .. I do know of many others that are used for pain. In any case, it may be worth speaking with your doctor about it.
It was very nice to meet you. I hope to get to know you better as time goes by.

Hi Dani! Thanks for the reply. I currently take 200mg of Amitriptyline at night so guess I should be covered on that score. I think i'll see how I go with the mtx injections and If the pain still doesn't get any better i'll speak to my dr about it. Some days aren't to bad but like today for instance it just feels like I have a permanent ice cream headache from the knees down, left hip and wrists and fingers. Just can't manage much at all today and just so tired from it all. Anyway enough of me feeling sorry for myself. Thanks again. Take care! X

Welcome to Healing Well Chronic Pain Forum! First off I want to tell you, when you come here you don't ever have to feel like your feeling sorry for yourself when you are telling us about how you are! We are all here to listen and help on another! And if you can not vent or unload your feelings and emotions to us about your pain, well who else can you go to?????? Sure we might not be able to fix you but we can listen to you and give you our support! And maybe, just maybe that will be just enough to help you feel just a little bit better! Anyway I am glad you came to our forum, and I hope that you will be a active member of out family! You know we all have days when we feel we just can't manage, so you are not alone feeling like that! I just wanted to Welcome you to our Family!

Hi Abol76:

I also wanted to welcome you to HealingWell. I just wanted to 2nd what Whitebeard said. You will find that we can empathize in a way no one else can - even those closest to you. As much as our family and friends want to, they just can't. So please, vent, cry, whatever you need to do!

It is amazing how much we all care about people we have never met in person, but we really do feel like a family and as much as we wish you didn't need to be here, we are happy to have you be a part of it.

I look forward to getting to know you better!

I'm only a little familar (reading about it) with the arthritis you have, I mostly have Osteoathritis, but my grandmother had RA Arthritis and so that's in my family and my rheumy doc
thinks I might have the beginning stages of ra arthritis..but I (personally) think any form of Arthritis is just horrible and wish they'd find something good to fix it. I try to get to
physical therapy when I can, as he uses heat/ultra sound/ soft stretches and tens on me and he suggested to ask my doctor for a script for one and that's how I got my tens unit, it helps..
I also use a topical creams on good days I just use aspercream on bad days I use voltran cream sparingly as it is prescription.
Hint when you get your tens unit, use it in conjunction with a moist heating pad as (well for me) that works better than just using the tens unit by itself.
Sure hope the tens unit can help you...
and like what the others say we all need to vent and there are a lot of nice people here, some of who you've met already...
Lots of soft healing hugz and hopes for a low pain day coming your way..
you mentioned "depot steroid injections" what are those??, hope you don't mind me asking...
