Hi everyone-

How is everyone doing?

My pelvic pain specialist suggested I start taking methadone with my percocet to control my pain a little better. I'm curious if anyone has heard of this drug and if anyone is currently on it? If so, has it helped your pain??? They had me on liquid morphine and morphine tablets but my doctor said it could be making my pain worse and so I had to stop taking them. I didn't really understand that. So much stuff the doctors tell me just doesn't make any sense!!!!

If anyone has any advice, please share with me...

I've been on methadone, and there's others here that are currently on it. I'm not quite sure why your doctor would say that the morphine would make your pain worse... Hmmm. Did you actually try the long-lasting morphine?

Methadone works great for some... all I can do is share my own experience and bias. I did not have success w/ methadone. It was also harder on that medication to get the "dosage" right... because a doctor usually wants to start low and do slow increases, due to methadone's long half-life. In addition, it also interacted w/ other medications that I was on.

But that was just me :) I know there are others that have had great success... I just know, for me, I would want to exhaust other options before going on methadone. But, again, that's just me :)

Main Health Problems: Dysautonomia/POTS; CFS/Fibromyalgia; Severe Chronic Hypertension; Hypothyroidism; Hypoadrenalism; Mixed (Obstructive/Central) Sleep Apnea - on Auto BiPap; Depression/Anxiety; Severe Vitamin D Deficiency

Pain Issues: Cervical/Thoracic back pain (they called it DDD...but I don't know); migraines; carpal tunnel syndrome; widespread joint/muscle pain, nerve pain in hands/arms/feet; Future Plans: Intrathecal Pain Pump; already completed trial (Sept, 2008); awaiting my decision for implantation...

   Dear Stephanie,
Good morning *hugg* it is good to hear from you. I hope you are able to get results from your new medicine. Have you noticed any difference yet? Or have you not begun taking it?
I dont have any personal experience with that medicine. But, I know many members here are either taking it currently or have past experience with it. So, I hope you have a positive experience with it.
I wont chatt away endlessly, just wanted to stop by and say hello.

I gues you could say that I am the resident Methadone Specialist....I have been taking it for many many's the only thing, long acting, that works for me....I also take Oxycodone IR 30 mg. 5Xdaily....So?  What do you want to know?  I know that most people think of Methadone as something for heroin addicts to take while trying to get clean...that's true...but it is also a darn good pain reliever....I take 120 mg. a day..and have been on that dose for years.  I have never had anything bad happen as far as side effects...only constipation..and that happens with almost all pain meds.  There are so many things that I could tell you, but I'd rather you ask me a email address is on my profile so email me any time you need to...I could write a book about Methadone....
Here is a link to a site all about Methadone for Chronic pain....I hope it helps....
Let me know what you think...
