I've had both hands done and never regretted it. I let the pain get so bad nothing was working so I had my right hand done in 1994 and the pain was gone the night of the surgery. When my left hand got bad, I had that done in 2004. I only wish my back surgery had worked as well as my hand surgeries did! I know there are surgical procedures that don't cut the center line of the hand, but do a smaller incision by the thumb. I did have a great hand surgeon and I'd use him again in a heartbeat. But if you can find something else that works, good for you. I just wouldn't suffer endlessly if nothing works - which is what I was doing to myself. It did take a few months to get my hand strength back, but then again my hand strength was lousy before the surgery.
