Hi all,
I finally had my reumy apt yesterday after waiting over six months to get in.  I really think I'm going to like the lady.  She seems very up to day and "digital" for our small area.  She took all the inital information hearself and asked a million questions....then reviewed the answers just to make sure we were the same on the answers...if not, then she changed hers in the computer.  I really like that because it is so rare around here and shows a willingness to do something other than walk in and out of a room.  Naturally my hands were down in swelling and pain she couldn't get a really good idea of what was going on.  She asked tons of questions and was really quite obviously unhappy about the follow-up on some areas of my treatment (although she did not bash any Dr or have anything exactly negative to say).  It was like she kind of muttered "that figures" a time or two when she as asking about follow-up testing, nerve testing, sleep studies, Hep C antibody testing (I've had the series, but no follow-up to check for antibodies), no x-rays of my hands in all of this time, no thyroid cyst follow-up on a regular schedule...things like that.
She had me do a great number of labs in her office and then go directly to the hospital for x-rays of my hands.  She also did a really good physical exam and commented on how red my skin is and how I have "feathers" under my skin.  Not real feathers, of course, but some kind of feathery design.
So now I wait and they call me to let me know what to do next.  They determine what to do after the testing is back, which is really good and set up appointments from the base office.

Retired Mom, it sounds like you've found that rare and illusive person known as "the caring doctor". Congratulations!!!

In all seriousness, I'm glad this doctor was so thorough and interested in YOU the person, not just YOU the patient (or even worse, YOU the symptoms - when they don't even acknowledge you as a person, instead of a disease).

Good luck with all your tests and results. I hope that whatever the situation, you and your doctor will be able to manage (along with support from family and friends).

God Bless!!
Conditions: Fibromyalgia, Severe Myofascial Pain, Chronic Pelvic Pain (with permanent muscle damage), Femoroacetabular Impingement (CAM and Pincer), Reynauds, IBS, Surgical Adhesions, Ophthalmic Migraines, Severe Hot Flashes (both Surgical Menopause and medication related), plus physically unable to vomit due to the Nissen, and I have extremely tiny veins with a lot of scar tissue...a joy when it comes to having to give blood or get an IV started

Surgeries: Appendix, Uterus, Nissen Fundoplication for GERD, Left Ovary, Gallbladder, Right Ovary, TVT

Medications: Oxycontin, Cesamet, Tramacet, Cymbalta, Flexeril and Clonidine plus Laxaday, Vitamin D and a Multi-Vitamin daily

Like others, I'm also glad you appear to have hit the jackpot - well, so to speak - in regard to a good doctor. Hope you get some real help as a result of this doctor and all the testing.

Sometimes it's worth the wait. Sometimes!

    Dear Retired,

I am so glad to hear an update from you *hugg* This new doctor sounds like a keeper, no doubt. I like that she began right away filling in what wasnt done, while adding in the new tests that she thought would give answers. It shows she truly heard what you had to say. That is a rare find these days. When you hear something back from her, let us know. I have feeling she will be able to get to the root of your problems. Hang in there
