Has anyone take Gabapentin for abd nerve pain?  My PM just put me on this but I am scared to take it because I also take Norco, MS Contin and Ambien.  Any advice on mixing these?  He seems to think its ok but it makes me super nervous!

Hi krw135,

I was on gabapentin a few years ago for nerve damage in my chest bone area after a surgery. It helped the pain a lot and was a real lifesaver. Good thing too, because the thoracic surgeon they called in was going to crack open my chest to see what was causing my extreme pain. At the time, I was also on morphine (tablets) and probably something else (can't recall for sure though).

You can contact your local pharmacist and ask your questions about drug interactions. Pharmacists generally know much more than doctors about drug interactions, etc. as that's their specialty. Hopefully that will help you.

Good luck,

Thanks Pam! I do plan on asking the Rph when I pick it up at the pharmacy, but sometimes they make me feel stupid for asking questions so I shy away from it. I also like to get personal experiences!
I am a 29 yo female, Dx with UC in 97, hospital stays monthly, tons of blood transfusion, bowel rest on TPN, prednisone, asacol, sulfa, imuran, VSP
99- multiple failed remicade treatments, more hospital stays
finally in 2001 had enough and had total colectomy (j-pouch) surgery, 1st step was good, then the reversal was not such a breeze, got peritinitis which was awful!!
the rest of 2001-2006 were amazing!
now having problems again- they are thinking Crohns.- have been on Humira with no luck

KRW I have all of my meds filled at one pharmacy. If there is a potential problem with medications interacting together my pharmacist picks right up on it and gives me a call and will also call the prescribing dr. She has no problems making these calls either. You should do fine with your meds as the particular medication you are asking about is prescribed with lots of different types of meds. Always ask your pharmacist about a medication, they do this all day long and I think know much more than drs do when it comes to medications. Hope you get to feeling better.
