Something terrable was happening! Big El, my wife's Tenn. walking horse found the persimins that were falling off the trees in the field and fermenting. El has cushings disese and has a problem w/ sugar. Lisa saw some big mucus (snot) on the wall of his stalls and also saw him under the trees waiting for the fruit to fall! He was also reaching up and eating them off the trees! EMERGENCY!!! Darling, we have to cut all those trees down and get them out of the feild today!!! Eating those things could kill him! Today??? I was gonna take it eazy and watch some football.
OK, it's 2:30pm and only 95 degees out there so let me see if I can get my chain saw running??? Yep, it runs so down I go and git to cuttin! I have to sit and rest after every tree is felled and limbed while Lisa loads the branches and Rose the wonderhound chases El & Lily away from the fatal fruit which is all over the ground now! There are about a dozen trees that must go! Did I mention that my hands are still sore from catching those big redfish thsi week? Oh my achin back! It hurts soooo bad so I take my meds and put on my tens unit and crank it up! 5:00pm and it's cooling down some, clouding up and the breeze is picking up> It feels so good! Only about 4 or 5 more trees left but I'm moving so slow now! Can I dig deep down and git er done??? The pains are shooting from my back down my legs and once or twice I think there just gonna give out on my sending me down into the hot sand and horse poop!! Now my neck joins in the fun sending electric shocks down my spine shoulders and arms! I keep stopping to tighten the chain and fill her up w/ gas & chain oil then gulp down a quart of water! It hurts my neck just to bend my head back to get the water in! It's 7:30pm and I'm on my last tree but I'm leaving the stumps 3~4' high and I'll never get them cut out of the ground today! Lisa says it's OK, we'll pain them white so the horses can see them. It will be better than cutting them down to the grown where they might step on them and hurt their hooves.
It's getting dark and the skeeters are buzzing and biting me as we unload the last of the logs and limbs on our giant burn pile! We did it, I don't know how but we did! We are quite a team, did I mention it was our 29th aniversity today? Well I mean yesterday> Sunday when we cut and moved the trees! No big dinner, no party, no celibration> we are wiped out! I can hardly walk but Momma is happy! El and Lily are down where the trees were sniffing around! Those trees were the only shade they had down there and now they are gone! I need to plant some good trees down there next spring! maybe some live oaks or magnolias?
Happy aniversery Sweety! That was the best present you could have given me! I didn't think you could do it and I was so scared for the horses! No problem my Sweet! I'm your knight in shining armor!!! When momma's happy, everybody's happy!
I'm in agony today and have done nothing but played around in my fishin room putting things away and straightening up. I hurt sooo bad but it will get better, it always does, back to the usual pain levels I am acustomed to! Some day, I am not going to be able to get things done the way I do now and I think that day isn't too far off! It's sad, I love being able to work on stuff since I can't work a regular job anymore. My pace just gets slower and slower and the size of the jobs get smaller and smaller! But we did it this time and I'm happy, Lisa is happy and Rose is happy> the horses, not so happy! Things are very sore and painfull in Peteworld today but good! Next year will be our 30th aniversery and we will do something special, I hope! If I can still walk by then and we are not totally bankrupt! For now we can only pray!!!
Love Y'all!

Pete I don't know what to say except I want to be just like you when I grow-up, if that ever happens-ha ha. Your drive to get things done through the pain never ceases to amaze me and is an inspiration. Please try to slow down for a day or two so the next time you go on overload it won't be so hard on your body. But I think Mikel is right, taking it easy isn't in your vocabulary. Lisa
If I can laugh at it, I can live with it.

Hi Pete,

Careful with the oaks. Red oak leaves are highly toxic to horses.

Glad you got those other trees out of there. Having a Cushings horse is tough. Nasty disease. He's lucky you are looking out for him, despite all the pain it caused you.

Hope you are feeling better tonight.

Oh Pete, I think its just impossible for you to ever take it easy! But it sounded as if your efforts were for a very important reason. Is the cushings new or the field new? Thats right you moved didn't you?
Hope you recover soon, big hugs, golitho
