Nice to meet you WillHeal, sure wish it was under better circumstance than chronic pain...
There are a few people here that have ankylosing Spondylitis and will be by to give you you see a pain management doctor or a rheumatologist or both? Sometimes getting a
good pain management doctor can take time, my first one I had troubles with and
I'm in the search process again for a good doctor...and sometimes a good pain managment psychologists can help.
We are not doctors here, but this is a good support group with good info...
Hope you can get a low pain day soon...

I have AS. What are your problems with biologic treatments? I have taken Remicade, then Humira, and am now on Simponi. Remicade worked great for a couple years then became ineffective. Humira caused a reaction not long after starting it. I have been on Simponi for 16 months and of all the biologics, this one has helped the inflammation the best. However, I have to take it every 3 weeks instead of the once a month originally prescribed.

With my inflammation under control, I have a lot less pain. A combination of Tramadol, neurontin and Vicodin for flares, I do pretty well. My activities are restricted. I have had to give up some activities that aggravated my joints and back. That was tough at first but I came to realize I would rather limit some of the more vigorous activities that constantly battle the pain.

Can you tell us a little more about what difficulties you are having?

Hi Willheal:
Hi and welcome to HW.
My 22 year old son has been diagnosed with AS, and because of his age, no one wants to do anything other than physical therapy.  He is a full time student and works a full time job, and is very athletic, but suffers terribly with constant back pain.  I am also very interested in the different therapies that are available for this condition.
Take care,
