Hi Chart

Thank-You for thinking of me! The reason I haven't posted anything about me yet, was because I don't have all the results my PCP yet, he is suppose to call me today and let me know about the Cat Scan they did of my chest. Basicly what I do know is I need surgery again, this time the Doc wants to do a posterior fusion the the articular joints at C-3/4 in my neck, if the bone is not viable then he will also fuse the  C-4/5 articular joints with that. I already have C-5-6-7 fused in the front.  But the big hitch is, I have been having allot of problems with shortness of breath and fluid retention. They have done all kinds of test on me for that, this last one was a Cat Scan of my chest, because on the chest X-rays they say I have tortuosity of the Thoracic Aorta  ( twisted Aorta???) and they think that might possibly be the problem causing my dyspnea and  peripheral edema, that is why they did the CT Scan, if itn't then they have to do some more testing or something! Anyway I do not want to go ahead and schedule the surgery on my neck till they get this problem resolved! I have also been having problems with my right hip and I have had all kinds of test done on it, so far the orthopedic surgeon wants to wait on doing surgery on it, because he thinks a great deal of my hip pain is coming from my back, and he is concerned about the lack of reflexes in my legs and feet and the extreme weakness I have in them. He thinks that could be caused by my lower back or possible nerve damage from my spine in my neck? The only thing I really do know is I need to have the surgery done in my neck. The neurosurgeon said it was a relatively  easy surgery from his stand point, but by going through the back of the neck, it makes for a very long and difficult recovery for me as a patient, because they have to cut through all that muscle in the back of my neck and they have to fuse both joints on each side of the vertebra, and put brackets on each side to hold it to gether!  I would really like to get this done and over with soon, but  I  just have to get the  shortness of breathing taken care of first! It just seems like it is just one thing after another any more! I  finally broke down,  and hired someone to come in once a week and scrub the kitchen and bathroom floors and thoroughly clean the bathrooms for me. I hate having to have some one do that stuff for me! But you know some of this stuff, I am finding just to difficult to do with my neck and hip the way they are,  and now with this shortness of breath thing,  which really scares the heck out of me sometimes, so I knew I had to do something! So now I have a cleaning lady come in once week!

I do try and post at least now and then, but I admit I have slowed down a bit!!   Oh by the way...... I still haven't sold the house yet either! I was hoping I would not have to spend another winter here in the cold! Ha one can at least dream can't they!

Anyway Chart thanks for the concern! I do hope that you are all doing alright too! May Peace be always with you!

Whitebeard, I so hope they find out what is causing your shortness of breath. I can imagine that must be scary, especially not knowing the cause. But I'll bet you it's going to be something easily fixable. :-)   I will include you in my daily prayers. Actually, I regularly pray for everyone on here, but I will add an extra one for you, your health, and for the sale of your house!

Dear White Beard,

It is so good to hear an update from you. I must say that hearing about the swelling and soreness of breath is scary. I understand why they would want it resolved before moving a head with surgery. So, if you can, give us an update and let us know if they finally pinpoint the cause of the swelling.

The new fusion sounds like it could help you a great deal. It must be very hard to have pain radiating from there and all the other problems that come with damage in that area.  The sooner it is taken care of, the better.

Goodness, I am sorry the house still on the market! What happened to the couple who wanted it at the beginning of summer? I thought you had a good lead on some buyers? It is good thing you found someone to help with the house work, it will make things a lot easier on you.

I hope you get your test results from your PCP soon. You will be in my family's prayers.

*hugg*

I  thank-you all for your concern and your best wishes. Just as an up date, I have not heard from my PCP and I called his office and talked to his nurse again this morning. So I will just call my neurosurgeon tomorrow and tell him what is going on, and see if he can handle it or find me a new PCP. As this one is fired, I will not put up with being treated like this! I want to get this surgery over with before the holidays!  I will post again and keep you all informed. I really do Thank-you for caring , it really does mean allot to me!

Peace be with all of YOU!

Hi Whitebeard:

I am so sorry that you are facing neck surgery AGAIN!  I know how badly you must just want to get it done & overwith, and I hope that these doctors get their acts together and move things along as quickly as possible.

I have been having a lot of pain in my neck and numbness and weakness down my arm, so I had a CT scan (I can't have MRI's because of my implanted devices), and it showed that every disc in my neck is herniated to some degree, so I will probably be facing neck surgery down the line as well.

I'm so glad to hear that you hired someone to help you out some around the house.  I did the same for a few months last year, and it meant so much to me.  She mainly helped me catch up on laundry, a little dusting, & maybe ran the vacuum, but it gave me the boost I needed so that what needed to be done didn't seem so overwhelming all of the time.

You will be in my thoughts and prayers (as you always are)!  Please keep us updated on the progress of your situation!

Take Care!

Whitebeard,

I'm happy they have figured out what to do with your neck, but wish they could approach this s.o.b. and fluid retention. It's always something.

Well WB, I think you are terrific and will be praying earnestly for results for you and that you receive the very best care. You certainly deserve it.

God's blessing upon you.
