For all my dear friends here, let me start by saying thanks for helping me through this long wait! I had my follow-up with the new Rheumy yesterday, and although I knew it was coming, I feel like I am kind of in shock....he confirmed that I have RA. I have basically known it for a long time and now I will get the meds that should help me but it is still kind of hard when you find out that you have a lifelong disease. cry He has pretty much ruled out Sjogrens because the lupus test came back negative. He also ruled out hep-c but is concerned about my liver function tests so he is now testing for hep-b and another inflammatory disease that begins with necro......anybody know what this is? I meant to take a notebook, but forgot because my hubby went with me! There was so much info that neither one of us could remember the name. He put me on Plaquenil....well the generic form, for now because of the liver function tests...one was 2 times the normal and the other was 3 times the normal. Based on what happens with these other tests he may want to try and treat it more aggressively but for now we will try this. He also indicated that my vitamin D level was WAY low....should be 30-100 and it was 9, so he gave me prescription strength vitamin D. So this is where things are for now... but me and my sister(damouthy1, Shannon) just found out our doctor is out all week and we both need our pain meds refilled and none of the other docs will do hers and possibly not mine! This is crazy.....they had no problem posting that the clinic would be closed on Friday....they posted that 2 weeks ago....but no one said our doctor would be gone all week!

Anyway......thanks again my friends and family and wishing you all LPD's and a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Hugs,
Beckey

Glad you got a dx Beckey. I know it's difficult knowing you have to live with chronic pain, but hopefully the meds the doc will put you on will help you have a better quality of life. Good luck with getting your pain meds. That in itself is a pain!!!

Beckey sorry to hear its RA, but now you have a dx and can move forward. I have Lupus and take Placquenil. Did the dr mention any of the biologic drugs like Embrel or any of those? I don't think you can have them if the liver is not right, not real sure on that. There is lots and lots of meds out there for RA that can get you back up on your feet again. My sister has RA and she cannot have the good drugs like the biologics because she cannot afford them and she has severe COPD and the drs will not rx them to her. Just hang in there it will get better once they get you on the medication that works the best for you and the right dose. When do you see the dr again?

I sure hope you girls can get your meds thats just wrong of those drs, what are they thinking. Take care.

  Oh Becky!

*warm hugg* You know, you've had so many ups and downs. So many tests and blood tests.. at one point I thought for sure you would just end up pitching a tent at the lab so they could take what they wanted 24/7. But, you stuck with it. You pushed through the 3 month, never ending flare. The fatigue and hopelessness was weighing heavily on you , yet you still did what needed to be done. Now that you have a diagnosis that you have told them for over 4 months was there... you feel sad. Who could blame you for mourning your body? It is life changing. You never had a chance to fully face what life long RA would mean. There was always that slim chance that it was something else causing the inflammation and pain. Now you know for sure just let all the pent up frustrations out. But! Be sure to write down all those questions that pop up in your mind. Keep a spiral notebook on hand. It will help. You will have questions and will need them answered for the next time you go in.

You know, those liver tests might explain the heavy fatigue you have had all this time. This could be turn out to be good. If they find what is wrong and can treat whatever it is, that might just help you to get your energy back. On the other hand I think it will also limit your medication options shakehead But the important thing is they are finally getting to the bottom of things. You can finally begin treatment. You can finally know, for sure, what has been happening to your body all this time. You finally have a name to get mad at when the pain is high.

I wish I could sit and chat more. Sadly, I took yesterday off from candy to help my daughters school. I have to get back into the kitchen. Know that I care for you a great deal. You are deeply caring and kind person. Hang in there. Stay strong always.

Finally a diagnosis. I know its horrible being labelled with RA, but there really are some great meds out there for it now and new ones coming on the market all the time. They've obviously put a lot of money into research for it.
Plaquenil is a good start, though it can take 3 months or so to build up in your system so don't expect a quick fix. Lots of people get good relief from it though. Vit D also causes joint pain when we're low on it, so that wouldn't have helped. I'm on Vit D as well as calcium, magnesium, zinc and fish oil. My doc feels they all help with RA and the effects of the meds as well as I am also low in Vit D! Maybe we use it all up fighting off the disease or something. I positively live in sunshine being in Australia and having outdoor children, I'm always on the edge of sportsfields or swimming pools, I can't believe I can be low in Vit D!!!
But I am so pleased you finally know whats wrong, best of luck with everything, golitho

How many pets did you say you have. Please say hi to Shannon for me. I think of you often and keep you in my prayers.

Beckey,
Sorry about the RA diagnosis, I was just recently dx'd with that too, don't think for a minute
that you can't have a life, it's just a little more complicated is all. It'll
take a while to get both vitamin d and the plaquernil to get into your system, but once they
are built up they should help. I'll be starting on methotrexate next year after the cold
weather as I'm prone to getting ill in the winter months. and the RA forum here is great.
wish they had a chat night for RA...
Make a call into your doctors office and maybe a nurse can get your pain meds called
out, try that...someone might be in at your doctors office or maybe they plan to call and reschedule
your office visit and ask about your medicines at that time.
Sure hope your feeling better soon, also go and get a RA magazine cause I found one that listed
the medicines and what can interact with them, it was a helpful magazine, for that.....

Again thanks for responding!

Suzane, yes it was pretty crazy around here! Besides 8 people in the house....we have 9 animals! 4 cats and 3 dogs up front and 2 more cats in the back side of the house! That is not to mention the one on the front porch who is a stray we built a very nice warm house.. on the porch for and two other special strays that come and go! Shannon says hello and we both pray you will get some relief soon...hang in there hun!

SE, Shannon says hello and she will try and get things working when the chaos around here quiets down a bit! lol

Dani, Thank you sweetheart! Right back atcha!

Chartreux, Thanks and sorry to hear you got the same DX. I think methotrexate is one of the ones he would like to get me on....but we need to figure out what is going on with my liver first! That is another scary thing! I seem to get tons of colds too.....or just one that never completely goes away! I did get the meds taken care of....at least until Tuesday when my doc gets back! I have been posting a little bit over in RA too... so I will probably run into you there also and I look forward to it! I will look for the magazine...thanks!

Wishing everyone LPD......You are all sooooo amazing!

Hugs and love,
Beckey
