Hey all.  I ended up in the er tonight.  In gobs of pain and my stupid finger that I did not hit on anything has gotten infected now.  Had to get a tetnus shot cause I haven't had one in many years.  Okay so the reason I went was because of my pinky finger on my left hand.  I hit it on the washer while doing laundry and it was hurting real bad and bleeding.  So I decided it was time to see what was going on with the pinky.  Apparently I have an infection around the finger itself and have developed a fungal infection under the nail.

The doc was real nice.  Didn't get read the riot act for the meds, in fact he asked me how much pain I was in and I told him a 8 tonight and he wanted to admit me to try and stabilize the back pain.  But, hubby is gone until tomorrow night and the dogs have to be fed.  So I told him that with the meds I am on I am actually getting enough relief to handle it.  He thinks that the finger got infected because of my diabetes.

Anyway.....hugs to each of you and I hope that you are sleeping well.

hugs

Awww Scarred,
I'm sorry to hear about the finger and about the other pain as well. I hope that you are feeling much better in the morning. Did he give you an antibiotic as well as something else for the fungal infection? You really need to keep an eye on both infections since with diabetes it can become serious in a matter of hours.
Hang in there, and feel better,
Sandi

Hi Scared,

It's been a while and I'm glad to hear from you. I am sorry that you are in pain with yet another issue. It's so strange that a small thing, like a finger or toe, can hurt so much that our meds won't even touch it. I know I've had similar things with toes where infections were involved and the doctor would say "how did you stand for it to get this bad?" I'd just reply that I was used to hurting all the time, so this wasn't much more painful than anything else. I just needed something for the infection.

Hands are so sensitive and we use them for almost everything, so please be careful with making sure the healing is going as it should (I know you will anyway). Bumping that finger is going to be a real issue for a while.

I hope your diabetes will get under control so that your healing improves. Perhaps a trip to the endo will help get that back in line. I know you hate going to another Dr, but you can never be too careful. It's better safe than sorry.

Please keep us updated. We do miss you!!!

Aw Scarred, hope you can get rid of this infection quickly, Crazy isn't it how one thing like that can cause so much trouble. Has your diabetes been giving you some problems? My husband is on another insulin and its been a real hassle he is still not stable yet with it. He is taking two shots a day. Take care of yourself and don't be a stranger.

Hello scarred! Good to hear from you, but sorry to hear about the finger. Mine got infected when I was a little boy, and it took forever to heal. I will never forget it.

Lets hope they can get the back pain under control as well. My Dr surprised me and put me back on the Oxycontin, and it sure has helped to smooth things out.

Let us know how everything turns out, and we do enjoy seeing you here again.

Thinking of you Scarred - I hope the infection clears up quickly and completely, with no lasting after affects. I'm glad that your regular pain is being somewhat managed, and that you've been able to deal with it for the most part.

Take care, you're in my thoughts and prayers.

Hugs,
Pam
