It's me Monica, sometimes I'm over here but mostly over at the Fibro page. Well, I posted over there but now I am posting here,
I came home on Thursday after the bad snow storm we had, my boys shoveled my rather steep driveway,l but we ran out of salt, so
it was very icy, when I came home from work, I took about two steps, and started to slide, I knew I was going to fall so I figured falling on the snow would be better than falling on the icy driveway. What I didn't realize is the snow was now very hard. So I fell into the snow and on to the ground. Somehow, before I fell I sort of smacked my body against the snow mound, that hit did something because my back and hip instantly started hurting. Crying the whole way I managed to get myself up and get into the house. I could barley walk, the pain in incredible. So I went to lay down, but in about a half an hour I decided that I better get up to prevent stiffness. It brought even more pain, but I felt I had to keep moving.

I somehow made it to work on Friday, but I guess sitting in that chair all day has made it worse. Last night was bad, today was worse, I've been in bed all day, I do get up every so often. I always had my leg sort of fall asleep or get numb but now it's worse and it felt like now both legs were going numb on me last night. The pain is in the lowest part of my back around to my right back side (my sciatica had started acting up right before this). I don't feel like I broke anything but the pain is not getting any better. I have my duragesic 75 patch, and my Oxy IR 15 that I take every 4-6 hours. I've been trying to take some advil in between, but its doing nothing for the pain. I guess I need to make a doctors appt for monday. Honestly, I don't feel like I took that hard of a hit, but I guess the pain says other. I feel like climbing the walls with the constant pain. I can only sleep on my back, and even then with the slightest move a jolt of pain gets me. I always knew back pain is so painful, but this....I just don't know how some of you that have back pain constantly deal with it. Feels like I'm about to go crazy. cry cry

Last weekend I hit the ground myself after hitting my head on my wife's SUV tailgate. Nothing like a good soft tissue injury to make things worse. I was hurting really bad myself for about 4 days before things started to ease back into their normal miserable state. To top it all off I was out of pain meds.

You might want to try something like Aspercreme, IcyHot, Biofreeze, etc and rub it into the muscles in and around the area you landed on. I have had better luck with those pain relief rubs for pulled, strained, or sprained muscles than any oral meds.

Hi Monica~

I guess this is the season for falls. My purple, yellow and green marks are almost gone but about 4 weeks ago I was going down the steps on the deck and didn't realize they had frozen over for the night. I went airborn on step 2 and came down on my 'caboose' on the edge of a step along with several other parts that hit. I do understand about trying to get up. Luckily hubby was home since it was evening but he had baby granddaughter in his arms feeding her and was in a panic to get to me too. We all need more pain like, as Opus the Penguin says, "Like I need butt implants!"

Anyway, Monica...I do think you might consider getting to the ER before it gets any worse. It's really hard to assess the damage without having them X-ray the parts that hurt and hit hardest. If you must wait then at least you will get in Monday, I hope! Just that 'mom' worry in me. ;-)

Even an little fall can do damage, get into the doctor asap. and Ice the site for
the first 24 hours, even if it's cold outside an ice pack is always the first thing
to use first then after 24 hours heat can slowly be added, so maybe a moist heating
pad, unless it hurts and if you have swelling maybe go to the ER.
I hope your feeling better soon, keep us posted.

Dear Monica,

Goodness, that must have hurt terribly! I have been falling quite a bit myself recently, though for different reasons. I hope you are able to get in to see your doctor tomorrow. Try to rest as much as you can.

Wow, it is the season for falls, I guess. I fell in my bathroom the other night, I really have no idea what happened until I felt pain from my head hitting the door facing and I heard that cracking sound. Needless to say I have a nice knot on my head and one sore head. I do not know if I was low on oxygen and passed out, which this has happened before or I was put on oxygen. I had been off for awhile when this happened.

Sure hope you haven't caused more damage. Let us know how it goes at the drs.

Just thought I'd pass on what my Neurosurgeon always tell me -- Use ICE for 20 minutes every 2 hours. HEAT IS A NO NO. Heat draws blood to the heated area and causes more swelling thus causing more pain. Ice reduces swelling and inflammation, and pain. I tried it cause I was always using heat -- and BOY was he right!! It does reduce the pain!!! I'm glad I listened to him.

Hope it helps someone. Hugs, Lee

Hi Everyone!! Thank You so much for your input. I was actually feeling a little better yesterday to the point where I got up out of bed, got dressed, and silly me lived a bag up off the floor. It did something and the next thing I know I am back on the bed screaming with pain shooting up and down my leg all the way to my foot. It was really bad last night, I was contemplating the ER, but I decided to try to fight it out. I work up this morning, got a hot shower and crawled into work. So I'm sitting here and I'm in pain, I called the doctor (regular...they can't see me until tomorrow. I called and left a message for my PM doctor to see if he says anything. I guess I am hoping he will call back and send me for X-rays or an MRI or something. I keep wondering if I could of done something to my pelvis like a crack or fracture??? IDK....I think the worst part is the sciatica nerve was acting up right before I fell.
I am sitting in my chair at work, I'm in pain but it's not nearly as bad as it was last night after I struck that nerve.
So do I just wait it out until I go to the doctors tomorrow? I just really don't know what to do at this point. cry cry

Called the doctors back and got my friend, I told her the situation and she squeezed me in for today. So that is a good thing. I also can feel where it's swollen now on my right side too. My nerves are a mess, but hopefully I can stick it out until my appt. I hate that I have fibro and have had to use so much time, and then when something pops up that is not fibro- related per say, it makes me feel so guilty, trying to keep a full time job with chronic pain can be so mentally draining. I mean, I know I am happy to have my job, and I need my job, but worrying about it on top of everything else...Well hopefully I can get some xray or something to say something today.
I will post when I know something

Waiting to hear the results back from the x-rays now. Today, it feels like someone has surgically implanted two large screws in my hips, and the are slowly turning them to provide additional pain!!

Grrrrr, the doctors office was without power, they just came back up so I guess I will not hear anything till tomorrow. I do feel like every day the pain is getting less, so maybe it is just bruising???

Hello All!!
Just an update, X-rays came back normal, so I guess it is just a bruise from my fall. I am feeling so much better every day. I was really scared because I thought I did something serious to my back.
Thank You for all your thoughts and prayers
