My father, who lives in Canada, suffers from chronic pain due to scoliosis (as do I).

I read on a few web sites that oxymorphone (Opana) is available in Canada, but I could not find it
on the Health Canada drug database.

Can any Canadians confirm (or disconfirm) its availability?

Also, more information such as generic vs. brand availability and dosages would be appreciated.

My father sees his PM doctor in a few weeks and I'm not convinced that he's doing a good job.
Currently, my father is taking Oxycontin (20mg 3x daily + 10mg Oxycodone for BT) and he's not getting much benefit from it.

Thanks.

RT hip and SI joint damage from car accident
Current meds: Ultram ER 300mg daily, breakthrough - hydrocodone 10-15mg, or oxycodone 5-7.5mg. .5mg ativan as needed for sleep.

Hi Cognito...

I'm not a Canadian but I was able to find a little information. As of 2 years ago it was not available in your country. I haven't found anything saying it's become legalized though. I think you're amazing to take such great care of your father. Often our parents won't speak out for themselves and are at the mercy of whatever doctors tell or give them. My parents were that way and it cut my father's life short. (Long story I won't go into now) Keep up the great job and I'm sure some fellow Canadians will be by to help you out.

Warm hugs!

Thanks Chutz.

I did, though, read a news story from 2009 that it is available:
http://www.istockanalyst.com/article/viewiStockNews/articleid/3262661

However, I cannot confirm it since the Health Canada Drug Database does not list it.

So, hoping if there's a Canadian member, they would know. I don't want to call my father's PM as I don't want to be too intrusive. I could try a pharmacy if no one here knows.

BTW: thought I am originally from Canada, I've lived in the U.S. for 20+ yrs.

I think your idea about calling a pharmacist is a good one. And since you live in the US I can tell you that our #1 fav team are the Penguins! Too bad Crosby got injured this season. It seemed to be the beginning of a downward spiral for for them. Add Malkin to that and it seemed to take them out of the running. Guess we'll have to root for the Canucks this year.
