I went to my PM doctor the other day, and I have been going to him for the past year and a half or so. Sometimes, I dont see him, I see his P.a., and they had me try some different medications that were not workng, and so she put me back on Oxy 3 times a day, which I have ALWAYS been on, and Perc. for my breakthrough, I have been on this since I have been seeing this PM. I go in to see him, to get my refills for the next 3 months, and we have a great visit, like we always do, and I go to get my refills, and I ask, where is my Percocet refill? His nurse says, there isnt one....I replied, I usually get it, can we ask him? She goes and gets him. He comes around the corner, and says, You cant have that!!! Who  prescribed YOU Percocet for BT!??? I replied, YOU!!! I have always been on it. He then tells me, I am not comfortable with you being on all this medication and if thats the case, you definitely need to start thinking about a pain pump. (we have been in discussion for quite some time about one) I had to CHOOSE which meds I would keep. So, I chose to keep 2 oxy's a day, and my bt meds, wth?!!!! I am so irritated!! Does he not even know what he prescribes me, or look at my chart!!!! I have ALWAYS been on those meds, and it makes me wonder with these doctors.....just when you think you  have this wonderful relationship with them, which I do, so I think, then  he pulls this ...stuff! He is the only PM I have been to, but, my comfort level on him not knowing what meds I have been on, is a bit worrisome to me.
Just thought it was strange, and I thought I would post!

Very, very strange!!!!

I don't even know what to suggest. I don't want a pump, although it might me nice to have some pain relief on days like today. I just want my oral meds. If they did me like the did you, I'd be locked in to pain forever.

Perhaps he's having a really bad day and will be more receptive next time.

I wish I had some advice to give. I wish you well.

sounds like the doctor is scared to prescribe you your breathrough meds. I imagine he's under pressure from the D.E.A. They are "cracking" down on narcotics. whatever the hell that means. They are pretty much just making everyone in pain even more miserable.

how often do you see him? If you see him at least once a month he shouldn't have any issues. If you only see him once every several months than that's pretty typical because doctors can only write so many scripts for scheduled medication in a certain time period or they get "flagged".

I see him pretty much on a monthly basis, due to having issues with pain, in general and not getting relief...He is a WONDERFUL doctor!!! He and I have a great relationship. He had just told me, You are a model patient, I wish I had more like you. You take your meds as prescribed, you pee as you should, only had to do that once, and I dont go inthere begging for drugs......I just think because the p.a. has seen me, the last couple of times, he got screwed up? its just strange!! No, I dont want to rock the boat, and I am sure, if I go back in thre and say, this isnt working, the 2 a day oxy, and the bt meds, I need the 3 oxy, he would go back and look at my history, and say, I'm sorry, I should have looked back and seen what you were on previously....and give it to me. I was just in shock and was dumbfounded. Its frustrating to be in there hands!! Youi need your meds, they try to take something away, and it freaks you out!!
I will try this for a while, and see how it works. If it doesnt, I will go back in and say.....Please go back in and look at my chart. YOU have made a BIG mistake!
I apprecaite the helps!

That is really strange. How long have you been seeing him? Has it been years? I know that my doctor always has to look at my chart to see how much medication I take.

Do you think that the decrease in medication will cause an increase in pain? I know that it may seem like a silly question, but if you do other things (heat, ice, therapy, etc.) in conjunction with the medicine, do you think that this dose will work for you?

I really don't understand why your doctor seemingly out of the blue decided to lower your dose!

Will he let you make an early appointment if the meds. aren't effective?

Maybe it's time to try to find another pm doctor, or at least think about getting another doctor.
Also, it's getting harder for doctors in the pain management field as the feds and states are
putting more pressure on these doctors. This is just bad that good pm doctors will get hurt,
because of the bad clinics...
Prayers, well wishes and healing hugz...
Think about getting a new doctor...

Flower, I am already starting to see that I am having issues, with increased pain without having my midday oxy. I will definitely be making another appt. with him to see what can be done, and get him to look at my chart. I honestly think he just made a mistake. If he doesnt fix it then, I will have to make some other decisions. Like I said, youjust dont want to rock the boat, so to speak, you feel like you are at their mercy. I know that I am never going to be out of pain, no matter what meds I take, but, I cant get over the hump during midday without having that medicine. I will tough it out this week, but, I will see him next week, if I can hold out that long.
I appreciate the feedback and prayers.
