I posted yesterday about the pain I've been in for the past few weeks (more then the usual)... And today when I woke up, it was even worse!!! I feel like going to the hospital, its that bad!!! When I woke up today, I needed help out of bed, then realized, I can't even stand up!!! I don't have a pain doctor, so I called around today and found one that accepts my insurance, but they can't get me in till march 24th... I don't know how I can bare to wait that long. I'm just praying that the pain will ease up soon. All I have is a supply enough for 2 vicodine a day. I called my primary doctor and told her about the fall I had that's caused the increased pain, and she said she'd call me in a script for motrin 800's... I already know those won't help at all!!! I have my own over the counter motrins and take 800mg worth every 4 hours!!!... I don't know what to do!!! Like I said, the pain is so bad that I really want to go to the hospital, but my kids are here. My only option is to wait till they fall asleep and have their grandparents sit with them. (We live in a 2 family flat and my fiancee's parents live downstairs). But I know, if I go to the hospital, all they'll do is give me a xray and a couple shots that'll dull the pain for a few hours, so it's almost pointless to sit in the hospital all night. Its so frustrating! sad cry cry cry shakehead shakehead shakehead

SoSickAndTired,

I'm sorry about what you're going through! The wait is long to see the pain doctor. PM staff are probably used to having people plead for an earlier appointment, but they also typically have a protocol. You can ask them, for example, to put you on a list for any cancellation.

As for a hospital visit, that's a tough call. If you think something is going on beyond your normal issues, it may be the safe bet. If you got, you might want to tell the doctor you will be starting with a PM in a month but you need more relief in the mean time.
C4-T4 Scoliosis (disk degeneration, stenosis, narrowed neuroforamen, bone spurs)
RT hip and SI joint damage from car accident
Current meds: Ultram ER 300mg daily, breakthrough - hydrocodone 10-15mg, or oxycodone 5-7.5mg. .5mg ativan as needed for sleep.

Tell my primary doctor that?... I don't think she'll do it, but I guess it won't hurt to try. And my reasoning for thinking about going to the hospital is because, the reason my pain is so bad right now is because a couple weeks ago I slipped and fell on a patch of ice, and everyday the pain is getting worse. It started in my bad hip and has traveled up my back. I know there's a nerve being pinched because its not a muscle ache, its a pinching/grinding pain. The last time I got a xray on my back was in july, and when they saw it, they were like HOW DO YOU EVEN WALK??? But I've lived with this my entire life. I'm just used to always being in some type of pain.

SoSickAndTired,

I meant if you go to the hospital, tell the doctor there about your wait for a PM appointment. From what you've said, your primary doc. isn't going to prescribe you anything beyond hydrocodone. But given your severe scoliosis, the ER doc presumably won't think you're a drug seeker. If you tell him you fell recently, have been in severe pain and have finally made an appt. for a PM, but it is a month away, perhaps the ER doc will be able to give you something stronger to help you until you see your PM.

I hope you get some relief!

My name is Kayla... And at this moment, my muscles in my back are tightening and starting to spasm... Its late, but I still haven't decided if I want to go to the hospital yet or not. I'm in so much pain... I just hate hospitals... I'm trying my hardest to suck it up and push through the pain.

I'm so sorry to hear about your pain, Kayla. =( I know you want to be strong and "tough it out" but sometimes it's not worth it. Have you tried something like a bath or a heating pad in combination with the motrin? I know it's a long shot, but at least any reliefe is better then none.

If I were you I think I would head to the hospital. Go in because of the fall, tell them about the agony your in, that you have responsibilities to your family and right now the pain is so much that you can barely get out of bed. If you're lucky maybe they'll give you a shot on the spot to take as much of it away as possible for the time being and see about getting them to write a script for pain meds, letting them know you have an appointment with a PM doc, but that's not for another month away. Mention you tried taking anti-inflamatories, but that they're not doing anything for your pain. It's worth a shot, and if nothing else, like you said at least you'd get the shot which will give you some relief for now.

*gentlehugs* No one likes hospitals, certainly not those of us that seem to spend a great deal in them on a regular basis, but sometimes those trips are needed.
Originally injured 10/26/2007 - Initial diagnosis; Tendonitis
Spent next year seeing specialist after specialist; Bone, Muscle, Hand, Chriopractor, Physical Therapist...
Went through a battery of tests, multiple MRI's
11/16/09 I was finally diagnosed CRPS - Stage 2
Permanently disabled and on Percoset for pain.
Hoping 2011 will see my spinal cord stimulator unit finally implanted.

I've decided not to go to the hospital tonight, I'm just going to relax as much as possible and try and wait till friday when my kids go to their dads house. I'm going to try the heating pad and hot bath for now, but I know, by morning, I'll be in pain again... Just taking it one day at a time I guess, till I can't take it no more.
