My rheumy appointment was scheduled for today, got there and they had an emergency and had to reschedule
me and this is the fourth time this has happened, my hubby took the day off from work this time to be there
with me and I get cancel, sure I can understand emergencies but this is the fourth one in
a row, wouldn't you be mad, it's a long drive out there and back, so now I'm schedule for next Tuesday,
any bets this will get cancelled too, my lower back is so very sore and I've been waiting to hear from a
new pm Doctor, I'm wiped out, frustrated, hurting and very MAD....any bets the next one will be cancelled???, geezee.
needed to vent, I can only tolerate so much, not a good day, so not a good day mad mad

one more cancellation, just one more and then something is going to give...or I'll be in the ER....

(hugs!) I am so sorry to hear this has happened. :( Maybe before you leave for your next appointment you should call them to be sure they can still see you.

Aww Chart. I'm sorry your appointment got cancelled yet again. Four times is just rediculous. No wonder you're mad. I would be mad too, and with all the pain you're going thru. It's just not right. I wish you luck with the appointment on Tuesday. I pray that it doesn't get cancelled too. Big soft hugs for you.

love ya

Hi Chart

Boy I do not blame you for being mad, was this a short notice emergency that your doctor had? Does their office call their patients when the Doc can't make it?  I can only imagine how frustrated you must be! Hope your next appointment isn't cancelled. You know I think I would call them just before leaving your house, just to make sure the Doc is in. And ask them to call you if you have a cell phone if for any reason the Doc gets called out, I mean even it your only half way there, if your appointment gets cancelled you would be saved from driving the rest of the way there.

I hope you have a better day tomorrow!

Hi Chart~~

Some days life just stinks! And this is one of yours, for sure. I think I would be writing a letter by now. If this doctor has to cancel that many times then he's over-booking. I'm guessing he gets called out for emergencies more frequently than he can handle and then those who have appointments are the ones who take the hit. I've left doctors for that type of treatment and gotten a new referral from my PCP. It's easy...just ask.

When a doctor makes me wait over a half hour for my appointment consistently then he's telling me that His time is more important than Mine! Not a change, buddy! Each hour of my life is just as important as anyone elses' and just because you can charge a large sum for your services doesn't make you any better than me or any other person who is needing medical help.

But you can write and make complaints. One to the doctor himself and another copy can go to your state medical licensing board or whoever oversees doctors in your state. You might get brushed off but at least you'll have gotten your point across. Enough people complain in writing and they will talk to him about it. Other physicians don't appreciate these doctors giving them all a bad name.

OK, I'm done spewing but this is a sore topic with me. The doc I've been going to for nearly 20 years has been late maybe twice...and I go often. One of those times was when a neighbor child was hurt and since he is set up for emergency surgery/stabilization he put that child ahead of the patients who had appointments. No one cares because it's so rare he's called out. The other was also an emergency but in almost 20 years to only have 2 late appointments is a wonderful record. It's most often that if I get there a few minutes early that he sees me a bit early...rarely a few minutes late. Just how he does it. Sometimes I don't need much time for my check-up (monthly) and others, like this month, I needed to talk for a while. When he sees you need to talk he sets down the paperwork in his hand and goes into listening mode. So when I don't need much of his time it makes up for when I do. It evens out by the end of the day.

Time for this Chutzie to head to bed...
Hope you find a solution!

My rheumy's office cancelled me for the 4th time too. I keep getting pushed back 3 months at a time. I know he's taking some patients while he's on chemo, but my pain doc and PCP can only do so much. I'm not getting the help I need with arthritis in my spine, degenerating discs, spondylosis, radiculopathy .... I'm going to call again because I can't find another local one. The one I was referred to is in jail. Other possibilities in the 'Burgh where I can't park my 6'4" truck except at hospital up the hill. I can't walk up the hill to get it again - chest pain.

I need to call the ENT in the morning. Cheeks are red, swollen, pain at least 7 - pretty sure it's maxillary sinuses. I've had 10 sinus infections since I saw him. I'm sure it's from the accident a year ago that broke my nose, messed up septum. I think It's blocking sinus entrances. I'm up at this hour because of pain. I took my evening tramadol, a diazepam to calm the irritated spinal muscles, Ambien. Woke up at 2, took Mucinex, Clindamycin (ordered by PCP, stopped after 10 days) and sinus spray. Up again at 4 for Percocet with Zofran (only way I can take it), Can't take another tramadol until 7:30 at earliest of I'll get twitches. My allergist got me on sinus wash with baby shampoo which helps briefly, Diflucan.

Reclining on couch on heating pad with cup of tea, crying. Crying is actually good - moisturizes med-dried sinuses.

 Oh Chart!

That is just terrible. Not acceptable! You really need to speak with your doctor about why you have been rescheduled 4 times. If he doesn't give a response that truly warrants the lack of care.... yep, I would look around for a new rheumatologist on the side. Just to have your ducks in a row for if this problem continues. That way when you toss up your hands and finally say, "I cant do this anymore!" You already have another option ready to go.

I have had to be rescheduled for all sorts of reasons, but normally I am seen the very next day. A few times because I just could not wait any longer to see the specialist. Other times for emergencies, weather and even recently a broken air conditioner. I have never been pushed off to a full week later. That just isn't acceptable. They usually work with my schedule to get me in as soon as they can.

I really hope your new PM doctor can get you in to be seen. I can well imagine the pain has you at your wits end! Try to take it easy if you can. Your are always in our hearts and prayers here.

*warm hugg*

Hi Chartreux,

I do not blame you one bit for being upset! That is ridiculous! I have to drive an hour to get to my rheumy and I would be very angry also. I was mad when I went to my appointment Monday and they had moved their office to the other side of town! I know it has been 3 months since I have been there and I understand why they moved.....but you could of told me that when you confirmed my appointment! I was hurting, traffic was bad and I had come in on the side of town where the new office was but drove clear across town to where the, now vacant, office was located so I had to go back and for some reason....our car was overheating! I was really mad....so I can just imagine how upset you are! So FRUSTRATING!

Anyway....sorry about hijacking your vent to vent myself!

Try to rest and take care of you!! Sending healing thoughts your way!!

Hugs,
Beckey

I'm so sorry this happened to you again. I wish I could say someting that would help, but I think I would just be repeating what everyone else has already said.

There is a reason for this.....I have no idea what, but I know thre is a reason.

I hope you never have to face that nonsense again and I feel for you too (and your husband) because he took off of work to be with you at this apt and now may have to ask again for the 5th time. I'd make sure he has a note from the Dr's office advising of the cancellations, the dates, and so forth (including the new date) to turn in to work just incase.

All my best.

If possible--what I really want to say is insist on speaking to an administrative/manager person. Give dates of cancellations and see if there is a common theme and ask manager what to do in this type of situation. If possible, make appointments early in day so if MD cancels on you you can have time left in the day for the covering MD to see you. Calling ahead is a great suggestion. Lastly, as a CPer with lots of history I've learned to be very persuasive and insistent with a smile. Oh, gaining the sympathy of a good RN can go a long way--when a nurse likes you you have it made.

For now I'll keep this appointemnt, and hope it's not going to get cancelled.
Thank You Everyone, it's just been such a bad week...last night when I log off
one of my kitties got startled, I don't know by what and he either bit me or clawed me
I rinse it under hot warm with soap (2 deep gashes, on left wrist) put some antibotic
ointment on it, it sure did hurt bad and kept it elevated most of the night, it
still hurts a little... and my kitty is no worse for wear...sure wish I knew what sparked him..
he's usually so laid back, for a cat...and hopefully that's as bad as this week will get.
no more bad stuff....

Four cancellations in a row is not a good sign. l go thru this with my gi however, he is in a very small town that I travel to and its my choice to stay with him because he is so much better than the big city drs. He does get called out quite frequently to go over to the hospital to an emergency, he is the only gi in that town so he gets all of those calls. But, like I say, its my choice to stay with him because he is so good and I trust him. He has found more things wrong with me than my others dr could not, they all just stood around scratching their you know what.

I think however, if it happens again that would be my sign to find another dr. I hope he is worth the wait. There should be more than one on your plan that you could go to since you live in a big city. Hang in there Char.
