As some of you know, I am recovering from my 2nd spinal fusion in the last 8 months.  I have always been a night owl, but because I have done nothing for the last 6 weeks except EXACTLY what the doc told me 2, I am becoming absolutely nuts!  My husband and son go to bed around 10 and since it is next to impossible for me to get comfy right now, I have been sleepin in my recliner...not the best scenario, but it works and usually I am asleep within an hour or so.  Tonight is not working!  I thought it might be because I hadn't taken all my meds (I am trying to cut myself back a little at a time)  I went ahead and took them about 30 minuts ago, so if I stumble round you know why!
One thing that I can tell about this surgery is he really did cut thru muscles and tendons, because the muscle spams are really wild this time.  They start at the base of my skull and go all the way down to my knees.  This is really what I wantd to spend tonight dealing with, and just another night of no sleep.............anyone have any ideas?

I am not recovering from surgery. I am just in a lupus flare. i am sorry you are in pain. nerve pain there just doesn't seem to be much that helps with that and muscles spasms. and i am sure no one wants to get up and give you a massage? i know nobody at my house is dying to do that for my nerve/ and muscle pain... ( i have several med probs.) Have you tried something as simple as an ice pack or heating pad... sometimes just changing the dynamics a little can make a world of difference. low warm heat for 15-20 then nothing then maybe not ice but a cold pack for 10. Did they give you any muscle relaxers, sleep meds .

i know for me when i can't sleep i start to over analyze the pain and try to figure it out. I will say if you are having some nerve pain that is actually good... it means you are healing. I know it sucks and i am so sorry.

I have certain bible vs. that i say when i am going crazy with pain.... Can you get up to get your meds? rest is important. I know you want to cut back a bit at a time... do that in the day time when you can preoccupy your brain.

don't be so hard on yourself...

i am going to try to knock myself out with a caveman club. just kidding... my arms hurt so bad, my back .. one of those... looking for what doesn't hurt days.

God bless you and may you be able to close your eyes and find some peace and rest.

with healing thoughts.... get well soon

Sorry you were having such a rough time. Did your meds ever help. I have issues like that. I usually have such a hard time going to bed in general but I'm in RA flare which always drains my energy so I'm in bed by 9. I hope you can get some rest tonight. Take care Heather

  Dear Finally,

Good morning  :-)    I hope you were able to get some rest. It seems so unfair that you have to deal with sleeplessness after everything you have been through. I wish I could give you some advise on going to sleep..... but I just now reached 4hrs a night with only 3 or so waking periods. I even get 5hr nights sprinkled in! All I could say is to talk with your doctor about it to see if there is anything he can do to help.
I got a bit worried when you mentioned trying to cut back your medications by yourself. I am not being stern in anyway.... but I really feel that while you are still recovering is not a good time. I know you are uncomfortable with the medications, but you have got to do what is best for your body right now. There will be plenty of time down the road to tackle tapering down. Your body needs to be comfortable and as little spasms as possible to properly heal. The last thing you need is uncontrolled spasms and inflammation.
I hope you are able to stay off your feet and more so, decent sleep. Know you are in our hearts here!
