Hello all!  Its been a while.  I have been very busy.  I hope you all doing great!  Heres my question and I am sure this has been a topic before.  As many of you know I live in FL and with that comes the honor of living in the pill mill state (embarassing).  Because of this my doc a while back switched my b/t med (oxy ir 15mg) which worked awesome for me and I would take max 4 a day to norco 10/325 max 5 a day.  I am so concerned because of the acetamin in this.  I know the max is 4000 a day but I am sure that any amount if taken continuosly is not good on the liver.  Also,  It does not work as well as the oxy.  I really do not know what to do here.  I have already been changed off of my long acting methadone a year ago to morphine because of a new FL law  that made me very very upset because I was in a good place where my meds were working and I was not taking many of them. I like my doc and I quess I can understand his thinking but it is not whats good for me.  He is doing what is good for him and letting someone else dictate the way he practices medicine.  I dont think I want to change docs over this but what else is there to do.  I need the b/t med but I want to take a med without acetamin in it and the oxy ir is the only one I know of and I know from experience that it works great for me ( was on it for 6 years before all this crab in FL).  BTW i go to a legitimate pain management office that takes insurance does drug screens and has real docs not pill pushers and am happy about it.  Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks and I hope you all have a pain free day!

          Hello shaw!

You know...Pete lives in Florida, and I think he is pretty happy with his PM there. You might want to contact him, and I believe he is also on the 15mg IR you were taking. Give him a shout, and maybe he can advise you on who he is seeing there.

                Take care,

Aloha Shaw,

I'm new to this but my pain medicine doctor (and all my other doctors too) are very cautious of the effect that different meds have on my liver. I don't have anything wrong with it but they want to keep it that way. It's amazing at how many meds effect your liver. If your PM doc is good then call/visit them to voice your concerns. Also, talk to your other physicians as well. That's a high dose of acetamin that your liver is handling. I don't know what else your on but sometime I've found you really have to be an advocate for yourself or you will end up in bad shape. At the least the PM doc should be monitoring your liver profiles/blood test very closely. These are just my thoughts on the matter. Take care and best wishes.
Aloha & God bless you abundantly!

It has been awhile, Shaw.  Good to hear from you.

Yeah, I worry about the acetaminophen thing, too.  You gotta make sure you aren't getting it from any other sources, too.

Hmmmm.  I don't know what do say because I know you've tried several different things... and I know that things are difficult there in Florida.  Maybe following what SE said and seeing what others in Florida have to say (I think we have a few here)....

I do understand your concerns, though.  Good luck and good to hear from you. --Tina

Thanks for all of your feedback.  I am told that you should not take more than 4000 of acetamin a day.  I would imagine if you have chronic pain like I do and use this medication on a daily basis then that amount should decrease.  I now take norco 10/325 max 4-5 a day which is about 1600 of acetamin a day.

Even that amount used daily cannot be good on the liver.  This is why I was so happy with the oxy ir 15 mg ... no acetamin and it worked much better for me at tackling my b/t pain (my b/t pain almost always hits bad in the am and at work).  If my doc will not go back to the oxy ir because of the bad rap it is getting maybe he will switch me to at least the percocet 10/325 which has the same acetamin as I am on now but with a little more pain relieving addition with the oxycodone.

If he does this then maybe I will not have to take two of them when I have bad flare ups like I do sometimes with the norco (which ='s less acetamin).  I dont know if docs here in fla are staying away from prescribing any oxycodone products all together or if they are mainly staying away from the ones that do not have acetamin in them like oxy ir , oxycontin, etc.  I would think it would be the opposite.  Since acetamin is bad on the liver you would think docs would rather give you something without it (acetamin) like the oxy ir so there is no damage to the liver.

I cannot understand what is going on here.  I have been totally switched off of all the medication that has helped me the most not because of anything I have done wrong but because of the actions of others and I am so tired of it.  Soon chronic pain patients will not be able to take anything but advil and tylenol and we all know those meds do little if anything for our condition and can be harmfull when taken in a chronic condition.

Anyway thanks for listening to me rant.  I had a bad morning today.  I woke up and my back hurt so so bad.  I took my dog for a walk as sometimes that helps but not today.  I decided to take 2 of my norco (as my doc said I could do) and it helps a bit but not near as much as the oxy ir and everytime I take any of my norco I worry about the acetamin I am delivering to my liver.

Never had that thought with the oxy ir and would never take more than one of them at a time.  I kind of feel like my doc is not doing whats best for me and my body just because of social stigma and I think its far from good professionalism.   OH I JUST LOVE FLORIDA!!! :(

(I took the liberty of splitting up you're paragraphs, so that members can read it eaiser. Please do the same on future post please.) Thanks! SE wink

i am so sorry you live in Florida. pain patients suffer and dealers/pushers get rich. i do not know if it has been released but a once a day version of Levorphanol is out now. regular levorphanol might be something to look into.
