So long time no post...but I luckily have less pains from my bowel issues (Crohns or IBS whatever no one knows what it is) but I still have the upper back/neck pain along with joint pain. I was recently Dx'ed with ADHD and minor depression (which is part of the ADHD) somewhat unrelated but worth noting since those can modulate pain.

Anyways I am in some ways starting to feel better in all areas but I still have trouble with the upper back/neck pain...one day I was having severe pain in my back so off to the wonderful land of urgent care I went and had an X-ray done that showed minor scoliosis and when I went to see my Internist she did some blood tests and my sed rate was 1...she labeled it as "suspicious connective tissue disorder"..kind of open ended. Anyways I take naproxen sodium 550mg q8h bid and it works really well! I'm a rower, runner and I lift weights allot Im very active...however their are some days where the pain is really just bad, to the point of not being able to sit, stand, lie down or do anything without the constant throbbing pain. On these days it is really a hastle to do physical work and I'm not sure how to fix this.....my doc told me to try lidocaine patches by dad uses (he has 3 buldging disks and degenerative disk disease maybe its related?) and they work a little bit but not completely and they usually fall off..anyone have any suggestions? I wish I could get injections in my back to just keep it at bay but I'm not sure that's an option given no "solid" diagnosis. Thanks in advance...

I'm confused as to why they dont know whether its ibs, Crohns, or Ulcerative colitis? Havent they done a colonoscopy and taken biopsy?

The joint pain could be caused from Crohns disease I know. But what about fibromayalgia? If you have crohns or UC then thats an autoimmune disease, and if you have one your many time more likely to have or 'acquire' one. I'll use acquire because obviously we don't know how we 'catch' or 'develop' or whatever these illnesses.

I have 4 Internists fighting over what it is, 1 radiologist who says it is Crohns one who says its not. 2 Internists say its just IBS 1 says its Crohns and one bet her medical license that it was Crohns...Ive managed to piss off two GI's by going to see there "rivals" (Thats exactly how my primary put it). New GI is a younger guy and doesn't think its Crohns but is pretty open about things and my Internist is persistant that its Crohns. I've 2 colonoscopies, a capsule study, numerous contrast CT's, X-rays, etc. What is for sure is I have a "suspicious connective tissue disease" probably auto immune which my Internist found. As for fibromyalgia, as much as I hate that diagnoses I think its possible...all I know is the discomfort is very real my primary who has a bit of psych experience doesn't think its fibromyalgia though...Ah clash of the medical doctors...well at least I'm not too bad at the moment..

I am so sorry you have such conflicting viewpoints from your doctors on your conditions.  Hopefully, at least one of them will get to the bottom of the situation and diagnose you properly.

As for fibromyalgia, I suffer from that and I do mean suffer.  While it is not an autoimmune disease, it sure takes its toll on me, I have to admit.  I take oxycodone 15mg every four hours, just to keep the pain at bay and some times I find I have to take concurrent advil with it.  No fun this fibro.  But I have had it for over 30 years.

Please try to get an accurate diagnosis for your back though.  As was already said, you could be doing yourself harm by not knowing.  I have a back history as well.

I wish you luck.  Keep us posted on your condition.  I, personally, want to know how you are doing.

God bless.

Believe in yourself.  Be kind to fellow humans and animals.  Take time to smell the flowers and the coffee.
And by all means, when you are down, ask me for help.  I will be there.

Thanks....to be honest i just want a solid agreement and diagnoses among my physicians...i wish they would give me something as needed for the pain though as it does get in the way of things at times. I used to take lortab and that helped. Im going to see an orthopaedic (physiatrist) for my back though.
