Hiya guys

Just wanted to pop in and ask a few questions and see if any of you lovely people could help me answer them. I had a caudal injection on 6th May and I keep getting sharp pains now and again. I also have noticed I am getting pain in my left leg now and before the injection I had pain in my right leg. Is this normal? After the injection I have had no pain in my leg only pain when I do too much, but it seems to now be getting worse. Hope you can help me with my question and wish you all a low pain day xxxxxx

Good evening suesueky!

While I have not had a caudal injection, I have had at least 6 "Epidural's" ...some with success, and some without.

I did look up the "Caudal" here in the web and found a good sight called Spine Universe. Here is the link....

http://www.spineuniverse.com/treatments/pain-management/caudal-epidural-injection-information

One thing it said, was that your pain may actually increase for a few days, and they seemed to make one believe that a second and or maybe even a third injection may be well worth the effort.
With any type of "epidural" it may take up to two weeks before a person can receive the maximum effect, so be patient. They should have given you a packet, and will usually require a follow up report from you. Then they will make a recommendation as to whether or not, you will need a second injection. I personally recommend it, but it is only my opinion, and you will have to decide for yourself as to what course of action you may want to follow.

Hopefully others will chime in here with more experience than I can offer.

Good luck, and so sorry to hear that your suffering so much.

SE wink

(Jim, or anyone who knows how to make the link "HOT" please feel free to do so. Im on a iMac, and can never get it there. A "PC"..then no problem)
(I will try and work on that little talent in the future) wink

Hiya guys

Thank you so much for answering my question, I thought I was going mad. When I had the injection I had no pain down my leg at all for about 3 days and then after that I started to get pain back in different places that I had not had it in before. I am just so glad that it may lessen over time and I will keep my fingers crossed for that.

Pebbles thank you so much for reassuring me, I guess the pressure would build on the other side as well and that is causing the additional pain down the other leg. I hope that the pressure does dissipate and the pain settles down soon for me.

Screaming eagle thank you so much for the website I have read through it and it has settled my mind a bit about the pain. My Dr did give me a sheet of paper to fill in on the day once I had the injection, but it only covered the first 7 hours and I was ok then as I was still quite numb after the local they had used. I have been keeping my own pain diary from having it done, so when I am called back I can hand that in to him.

I knew I could always rely on you guys to give me some peace of mind ((((((((hugs))))))))) and I hope you all have a low pain day

While medication in a caudal injection moves up the spine somewhat, it's possible you needed it higher to begin with. I just had one of these, about 3 weeks ago. It's doing a pretty good job. Pain in tailbone for a week. It did not stop ALL the zingers in my legs and feet.

The best injection I ever had was L5/S1 epidural. That one worked for 9 months.

Remember to ice 10 min per hour and take it easy for a couple of days after spinal injections - according to the sheet I was given.

Hello from nini53, I had and injection directly beside my kneecap on my last visit which was May 4, I am not sure if it was wholat you had, mine was given because I had complained about the pain in my left leg which was unusual as my pain is in my right.  I do know that I got the injection because she explained that it probably was arthritis.

My pm doctor (actually his PA) explained that the pain would probaly increase before it decreased, for the reasons stated in other postings.  I also was given some gel (Voltaren Gel), which although it did not work for my knee-leg did wonders for my hands.

So hang in there, hoping you are feeling better, and having low, low pain day and days.

Hi Sue I haven't had any kind of injections in my back except an epidural when I gave birth to Jessica. It hurt so much putting it in but after everything was over with, I was pretty comfortable. I'm sorry that you were in so much pain last night. I hope you're feeling better today. I'm sorry I can't help you with the injections, but I sure can give you a big hug. ((((((((hugs)))))))

love and hugs

I had a caudal 9 months ago and I agree 100% with Pebbles225. I found this to be true with mine as well. The additional pain went away after a while and it also helped my initial pain.
