I'm going to have to go thru the pain and withdrawls again. I called my dr. last Monday about refilling my patches and oxycodone. I got the scripts in the mail yesterday. I was like oh good they came in time, as I was to take my last patch off today and put another one on. Jerome took the scripts over to get them filled today. He came home and told me that the pharmacist needed a pre-approval number. I about screamed. I said not again. I'm on Medicaid and when I first started using the patches, they asked for pre-approval, but then they stopped. Now the idiots are asking for pre-approval again. I sure wish they would make up their ignorant minds.

Now I have to wait til Tuesday to call the doctor's office, and then wait for the nurse or whoever to call the pre-approval number in. I'm so fed up with this. I really didn't think that this would happen again, as I called 6 days before time. I don't know what to do.

I'm so angry and upset. I wish I could give my pain to those people for one day. They sure wouldn't be going thru what I'm going thru. My pain is going thru the roof already.

I sure hope your night is going better than mine. I hope you're all having a low pain night, I love you all.

love and soft hugs

Loretta, I don't know when your next appointment is with this particular PM you have, but you really need to tell him what he has been putting you through. Take you're husband, a friend, or someone, and let this guy know, just how serious you are.

This is serious business, and you need to get to the bottom of it quick! I'm sure this guy has a boss, or someone to answer to, so get with it, and complain. There might even be a state health board you can complain to, but something needs to be done about it. The only other option would be to seek out another PM.

I know if you were my wife, you could bet money on it, that I would be there with my "Eagle Eye"...and my jaw muscles flexing! mad

Once is bad enough!... but two times in a row, is way uncalled for!

The ball has really been placed in your court now, and it will be up to you to seek a solution, that will not place your health in jeopardy again like that!

As you can tell, I hate to see you go through this, and I really think someone is messing with you at the PM clinic. Criminal!...and if not! should be!mad

This is one thing, I made sure to discuss with my PCD before I signed a contract with him. He has a plan in place to see to it that I get my pain med's on time. Friday when I picked up my scripts, from my Dr, I noticed his signature on the scripts, but the hand writing was written, by someone else. I believe he signs his signature to several scripts in advance, and when he is out of town, his nurse is authorized to write the script, in accordance to the contract that is agreed upon by the DR and his patients.

I sure wish you luck, and again, hope you get this situation resolved.

Take care,

Sorry to hear that you have to go through this:(...

It sounds like it's a Medicaid issue this time and not your PM since it's about pre-approval...and your PM office should be able to fax The unfortunate part is this all happened on a holiday weekend..and the Pharmacy has to follow the orders of who is doing the paying..(Medicaid)

I guess the Pharmacy is closed on Sunday? I was going to suggest to just pay for one or two patches, as well as fill the oxycodone....and then when you call your PM on Tuesday and let them know you went ahead and filled the 'parital script'...they can mail another prescription...

As well as talk to the PM about possibly prescribing one extra patch to keep on hand for emergencies like this since there isn't any exact time frame when Medicaid is requesting the pre-approval so you have not been able to prepare...

Were you able to fill the oxycodone at least?

Again..sorry this happened and during a long weekend....I'll be thinking of you...

Hi Loretta,

It's like you just can't catch a break....two months in a row. I just knew they would get it back together and do things the right way this time, but I guess I was wrong again.

I hope this will be a very short wait and that you will not suffer so much as you did last time.

I miss you my friend and hope you find relief soon. Please watch the depression as best you seems to be really taking a toll on those of us who have it (this time of year). I don't know if it's the change of seasons or what, but depression and anxiety are overwhelming right now.

Hope yuo have good luck soon!

Thank you all for the support. Actually SE this time it is Medicaid's fault, and not my doctor's fault. The dr. got the scripts to me in time, it's just stupid Medicaid wanting the pre-approval this time. Jerome is furious, but there is nothing he can do about it since it's Medicaid's fault.

I sure do appreciate all of your support. I don't know what I would do without you all. I did get the Oxycodone filled, but the pharmacist won't open a box of patches to take one out. So, I'm stuck. The oxycodone doesn't do much of anything for my pain. I took two along with two Tylenol Arthtitis about 5:00 and it's 7:30 and I can't tell a lot of difference. The oxycodone is only 5mg though.

I just can't believe I am having to go thru this again. It's so aggravating. These insurance companies think they know about medication, but they actually don't. I wish they would go to pharmacy school and learn how to take care of chronic pain patients. Maybe even add in medical also. :(

RetiredMom I miss you too my friend. I hope your pain is low tonight, and that you're able to get some rest.

You all take care. I hope you're all having a low pain day/evening.

love and hugs

Hey Loretta , Sorry your having such a rough time there . Yeah they have to call in and get some approval number , they write it on the script and then it can be filled . I've had the doctor forget that too , so I now check it before I leave the appt . But if your getting it by mail thats very hard to verify its been done , maybe when you speak to the doctor you can remind him/her . My doctor made a notation next to the med in my record so he'd remember , but it is frustrating for sure . Hold on Loretta , you can make it , its great you talk about it and get it out instead of holding it all in , which is what I tend to do , good job ! Hoping you feel better , Tuesday will be here soon friend . Take good care , Mikel

Wow, a second time in a row. I don't know what to think. Is there something else your dr can put you on that will not require a number for Medicaid every refill time? This is just wrong.

Take care.

Hi Loretta....
I'm sorry you are going through this again.  And I completely get what you are saying re: the insurance issues.... I've had things happen to in the past.....
But I would really encourage you to try to fix this situation somehow, because continually being off the fentanyl for up to a week each month is not good for your body :(  Whether it's your doctor giving you a couple "extra" as a cushion for situations (like the insurance, etc).... to just "assuming" you need the pre-approval # each time.... to making an appointment to see your doctor each month, if you can.... I'd do whatever I had to - to make sure I had my meds each month.
I'm sorry if you've said this before - but how often do you physically go in and see your PM doctor?  It's just really unusual for these types of meds to be mailed.... so I'm just curious.  I hope the next time you see him - you can get all these issues out on the table so you aren't going through this each month.
Hang in there, and I hope you feel better!  Take good care - Tina

Thank you Mikel, straydog, Tina and Betsey. I really do appreciate all the wonderful support that I get from this forum. You guys are so great. :)

As far as my meds: my pcp prescribes them. She sends them thru the mail because we don't have a car to go pick them up. She only sees me every three months. I probably wouldn't see her that much, but I have diabetes and high blood pressure that she has to keep an eye on as well.

All of you on this forum have become like family to me. My family lives in Middle Tennessee and Jerome and I live in Western New York near Buffalo. It's so good to have such a big family of such great people that know what I go thru each and every day. Unfortunately we don't get a break from it :(

I'm wishing you all a low pain evening and night and lots more to come.

You all take care. Love you all so much.
