I am so sorry, but I have to ask what is Ketamine?  If I have heard the name before, I kinda recognize it from different tv shows I watch, (to much).

Could someone answer my question?  I dont mean to sound ignorant, but I would like to know, I saw SE said it was a powerful drug.  It scares me for Laura, not knowing scares me more.

Thank you anyone who knows, I would appreciate it.

Kathy...if you will do a search on it, there are several articles on it.

tmjpain was also on it for a while, but did not help her. Just click on the search button in the upper righthand corner of this page. It has been covered quite a bit.

Hi Kathy,

Ketamine is used more often in veterinary medicine these days than human - it is what's called a dissociative anaesthetic. Also an NMDA receptor antagonist. NMDA receptors are thought to play a role in wind up pain and sensitisation through the central nervous system, especially with diseases like CRPS (and other things causing severe nerve pain). The theory/rationale for using ketamine is that by blocking activity of the receptors you can do a kind of reset of the CNS & pain pathways.

SE is right - it's not a nice drug. It's used as a party drug (aka 'special K') because it can cause hallucinations. I've had minor probs with them in the past. So far this time I'm a bit dizzy but mostly okay.

hugs

Laura

Nope...I think it's also used in paediatric medicine.

And why anyone would take this stuff for the fun of it is well beyond me *sigh* It's a horrible, horrible drug.

Hugs right back at you Laura, I thank you for taking the time to explain that to me.  I thought I had heard the name before, like I said, on tv shows, but thats not like really knowing.

SE told me where to find it in search, I also did that and that was very helpful in explaining the uses for ketamine.

I feel so bad for you, you have been through so much, I cant tell you how much I admire you.  I know you have good days, but I know thats because of your effort to make them so.  Sometimes when I read about CRPS patients, I feel like, wow I have nothing compared to what shes going thru.

But I supposed to be trying to make you feel better, not babbling on and on like I can do.

So again I will be praying for you, and hope you are feeling better soon,. I would also like to know how it going, how long does it last, the ketamine.  Please if you dont feel like answering do not, I will completely understand.

Good luck to you always, you stay in my thoughts, I will always be praying for you.
