I just seen this on my Google News Feed and thought I would pass it on since many people here have had or are considering getting some kind of spinal fusion.

I don't click on any links due to computer security risk of a virus...Could you or someone just give the cliff notes?

Ok...I just watched this on the Today show...and they say more will be talked about on NBC Nightly news tonight...
I just contacted my Neurosurgeon...and found out:
My Spine Institute is part of this trial over the last years...but they are one of the group of Neurosurgeon's that are complaining that they received false or misleading data about ALL the possible side effects from the Medtronic's corp. about the Infuse (BMP-2)...
So it's really about one group of Neurosurgeon's that reported the other and now it is being investigated fully thank goodness..
I have this in me from my last surgery....I looked up that actual article where it talks about 10 to 50% of people have so far shown side effects from cancer, sterility, infection, bone dissolution, and worsening pain....
I'm sure now that this is out in the public...there will be thousands of people coming forward...
Thanks for the heads up:)

I think the biggest thing is to speak with your Dr. and see if they were part of this clinical trial from Medtronics...There were 13 clinical trials going on around the country from 2000-2010....

It states directly on my Spine Institutes website that they were part of this clinical trial...

Even though I love my Dr.s ...I went ahead and video taped the information on their website showing this trial just in case anything happens negatively and they take that info down from the website...Plus I am going get a copy of my surgical notes that show I was part of this trial and they used the BMP-2 in me...

The issue for me is I don't remember them actually talking about this being part of a 'trial'...I remember him talking about that BMP was fairly new...
but Dr. is one of those that wasn't given the full information from I wonder if it will end up both Dr.s and patients filing lawsuits against Medtronics and their Dr.s who left out pertinent information when 'selling' this product and convincing the 13 spinal institutes around the country to use this...

Quite interesting....I am just more concerned about exactly what types of cancer...or what types of infection we should look out for...

I was not part of any clinical trial that I am aware of ,but had bmp2 used in my revision surgery. It looks like I need to do some reading, especially given the problem with bone dissolution.Makes me wonder if the osteoporosis came from that????????
I will not be a happy camper if it does have any relationship.
