I am helping with a car show in 2 weeks so I went to the assisted living facility I used to be the activity director at to make some last minute arrangements. I will be, cooking on the grill and sitting in a comfy chair, hubby will be doing the tents and the hard work.

I then went to visit with some of the ladies in the Cafe. I spent about an hour and then it was time for lunch. I started encouraging the ladies to get moving and we all headed up the hall, I found it pretty hilarious that they were going faster down the hall with their walkers than I was going with my cane. I got lapped by a 96 year old I think. I felt like the new lady at the home, lol. Maybe I will go to play Bingo on Thursday, lol!

All in all it was a good visit! Made me feel a bit more motivated, just to get out for a bit, now I am beat but it was worth it.

Shell, it sounds like your visit did you a lot of good. I really think you should consider going and visiting once in a while. It will get you out of the house more and think of the wonderful things it will do for those who live there.

The new owners are open to volunteers, the older ones when i was working there were very anti volunteer due to liability.

They wanted me to call Bingo on Thursday but i am not nearly ready to be up and moving for that amount of time, lol. These ladies are brutal with their bingo, heavne forbid I would need to take a break for a sec, lol. Maybe someday this summer but not yet.

When her schedule allows my wife goes to the various nursing homes and such and just visits with the residents. She doesn't go to see anyone special, just who ever happens to be up and around and in the common room. She doesn't do much more than sit and talk with them, though sometimes they will end up playing a game of Uno or something. From time to time she also takes our son with her and he will either just sit and color or play with some hot wheel cars that he brings along. She says just seeing "new" faces and having someone pay attention to them really brightens up their day.

All of the nursing, assisted living, and rehab homes around here are open to "volunteers" and none of them care what form that volunteering takes.
