This New York Times article talks about a report from the Institute of Medicine on chronic pain:

well.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/07/18/giving-chronic-pain-a-medical-platform-of-its-own/?partner=rss&emc=rss.

Having the IOM release a report is great news, because IOM reports often generate a lot of discussion among doctors and the medical community. Hopefully this will get more attention on the issue of chronic pain and its treatment.

Here's a link to the actual report for anyone up for some reading:

All I can really say is that it is a start, but the damage done by drug seekers, the quacks who enable them, and the press is huge and is going to take a long time to clean up.

Thanks for sharing. The article is really interesting, and I agree that the druggie stigma is a big part of why chronic pain is so difficult to bring to light right now.

Thank you Heather. I was going to post these myself, but I never can get the links to where you can click on them.

I have read these, and they are great. It's a start in the right direction I hope and pray.

Loretta, click on "post reply" instead of "quick reply" and links will be clickable.

I read the report. The Times article did a good job of summarizing. Thanks for posting.

Alice, while this may work for your computer...it will not work for all, and some  have to type in the code to make the link hot. ....Especially on a Mac....and some PC's....depends on how they are set up and the operating system. I use both systems....one does and the other one needs hand typed codes put in. wink

This may indeed work for Loretta....but again ....just a note that it may not work for all. How can you tell if she is using the quick reply or the "Post reply"?? Will it show it? I dont have a clue,...as I have never replied back this way before. I'm open to learning something new as well. wink

Loretta ....you can email any of the mods, and Im sure they will be able to help you with this. I struggled with it too!... for a very long time....and Jim1969 helped me out many a time,...and made them hot for me. (Thanks Jim) wink

I can send you the codes and see if that will help....if not...we will find another way to help you out.

We appreciate everyones efforts to keep members updated on the latest medical news concerning Chronic Pain.  ...So...Thank You!.. Heather! wink

Thanks Michael I use post reply. I don't even know where quick reply is. I need to put codes in and Jim posted them one time but I still couldn't get it to work. I guess I need more explanation of how to do the codes. Thanks for letting me know though Alcie.
