Over the past few days my pain levels have sky rocketed to such high levels I am worried I might lose it. I am unable to sit even long enough eat something and have been working while laying down with my laptop on my lap. I fear that I will have to call off work if this keeps up and as I have a new boss who is far less then accommodating its not even really an option for me.

I am worried that what I thought was a very minor trip down the last two stairs I had the other day may have done some real damage but oonest I can get into my ortho is 8/24 and since I just saw my PM I doubt there is anything that can be done

I have tried every trick I have and nothing is working. I have taken my emergency meds and tried all the tricks that had ever worked before and I am still stuck on the floor. Ice/heat/TENS unit, massage and everything in between.

Sorry, I am just babbling right now trying to distract myself and get some thoughts in order. I am at such a loss at what to do. This pain goes from a 8.5 to just below a 10. In fact I wish it would hit a 10 so I could pass out and be free from it even for a mew moments.

Please don't be sorry for posting or think that your babbling, as the saying goes misery loves company, and when your hurting really bad it is difficult to suffer in pain alone! We are here to listen and to give you our support! You know you might want to call your PM and explain what you have been going through, you never know maybe he/she can do something for you. You will never know unless you try. Who knows maybe just maybe your PM might be able to help you! You should not have to be in pain like that! Also have you tried alternating hot and cold, that sometimes will help bring relief. I wish I had some answers for you that could make your pain go away. Just know that your not alone.

I wish you well and hope you get some relief soon!

Sarrah,...when I hear a tone of desperation such as your...and the pain levels you are experiencing,...then I think a trip to the ER is in order. An 8 to a 10 is very severe...and really warrants emergency care in my opinion.

Just make sure that if you are under a contract with you're PM....tell the Dr's there...and I think they can put in a call on you're behalf. You really need some sort of emergency relief now! It might be as simple as a shot of morphine...or an increase in your med's.

I don't know what you're med's are, that you are scripted...would you be willing to share that with us?

If you have used every trick that you can think of, then....head to the ER.....you do not need to suffer like this.

Good luck, and let us know if you get to feeling better.

     In sincerity,

Sarrah...I'm so sorry to hear how much you are hurting...

I think it would be best to call your PM this morning and ask him what he thinks you should do...Maybe he will allow for an increase in your medication...Or...if you actually are reaching a 10...which is they type of pain that someone feels is life threatening and you can't type or talk...then he may suggest you go to the ER.

But I really think a quick call to your Dr. is always best to let them know what is going on...that way it's their decision what to do and will be in the loop for everything...This not only could save you a trip to the ER if they up your meds...but if you have to go...then your Dr. will know beforehand and you can let the ER know that you were told to go there.

I certainly hope you were able to get some sleep and can talk to the Dr. asap...

Sending hugs (( ))

I wish I could head to the ER. Unfortunatly I live in an area with Rx abuse is a huge issue so that doctors will not treat anyone for chronic pain issues. (That is something I was told point blank for a butt head doctor)
My neck has 4 bulding dics (C3-C7 and moderate/severe stenosis at the C7-T1 junction. I am so worried that my fall made something worse.

My normal meds are:
Kadian 20mg twice a day
Zanaflex 6mg every 6-8hrs
Percocet 5/325 every 8hrs for breakthrough
Advil 600mg

My emergancy meds (My PM is aware of the lack of care from the local ER)
Dilaudid 4-8mgs every 4-6hrs if needed
Torodol - I can take a max of two a day due to the toxicity this med has on your kidneys.

Right now I am just trying to relax and get my neck and back down to a tolorable level. Work is really hard right now but if I miss time I am likely to lose my job and I cannot afford that.

I have been up to long and have to put the laptop down

thanks for all your kind words.

Sarrah.. I happen to see one of your signatures a couple of weeks ago, and see you are taking 20mg of Oxycontin, and Percocet's for BT. Are you taking the 20mg Oxycontin x2? .....and how much and what strength are the Percocet's?

The 20mg Oxycontin...(same as I take)...are really a low dose, and I'm wondering if maybe if those were upped...they might make a big difference for you.

We hope you can get some relief quickly, and maybe Snowy is correct that a simple call to you're PM might get you some help. At any rate, I can see that you are in a desperate situation...so do what you can....but at least call someone.

It sounds like your Dr. does allow a pretty hefty dosage of rescue medicine for you to keep on hand...so that is good...I would still call him to see what he has to say though and let him know you are having a hard time after a fall..

Are you having extreme numbness, tingling...or loss of movement in any extremities? This is where you would go to the ER to make sure you didn't injure anything further...not for pain control necessarily.

Or is it just pain involved...And I say 'just' in the sense as not having an actual issue where you have ruptured the discs now...or just having aggravated pain from the fall...

I know everyone has their own view of what the ER is for...I happen to believe for myself...I only go in true emergencies for life/death as I do agree...that it's not meant to be for just extra pain medicine. That is where I believe contacting your Dr. is very important..

Now...if he says for you to go to the ER to get an MRI done if you are having symptoms of a severe rupture of a disc....Then it would be cleared by your PM and he could call the ER to let them know you are coming in...

It's certainly up to you...and I don't think there is a right/wrong...everyone needs to make their own decision on this issue...and I don't fault anyone for going if they need to.

So..if you aren't having emergent symptoms for that...Then with all the extra medicine you have taken both muscle relaxers and opiates...on top of your regular meds...just logging off the computer and getting some rest today might help...

Again...I don't think you can go wrong by involving your Dr. today and talking with him about the extra pain and the fall..

I'm praying for you! I hope that this is just a flare and no further damage was done..

Hugs...(( ))

Sarrah..it looks like we posted at about the same time..and I see that you have posted your med's now. I must have missread the Oxycontin and instead your taking  a form of ER Morphine. At this point I'm at a loss of anymore suggestions, since you have been advised the ER is a no go.

The only other option, is to call you're PM at this time.

The PM is out of the office for the rest of the month and his nurse told me to contact my ortho since the pain spike

I called the ortho and left a message with the nurse line so hopefully they will call me back today.

I don't know if you are on a PM contract or not...but just write down the day/time and nurse you spoke with about this in case you see your Ortho or go to the ER...you have it documented that you tried to contact your PM first. I am shocked that there isn't a fill in DR. for your regular one..Are they just closed the whole month?

I don't see your Ortho handling anything pain medicine wise...but he could be the one to order an MRI or send you to the ER to get one if you are having the symptoms I mentioned before in addition to any pain...

I'm praying for you and hope that there wasn't any damage done from the fall...

PM doc is a private practice and he does hot "share" patients with his partner. I just got a call from the ortho and they cannot move my appt up so it is looking like I have to either deal with the pain or waste money going to the ER to be treated like crap, get a scan and be sent home and told to contact my doctor.

Sometimes life just sucks!
