Hey y'all, I am wondering something here. I've been on Topamax for about two months or so, and about since then I have noticed I wake up every night around 3:00 and 4:00 and cannot get back to sleep. We are talking about every night, and it is like clock work. This is not normal for me at all and I am wondering if anyone else has had these issues while on Topamax.

I am so tired from being tired all the time I was put on Topamax because of migraines, but if I cannot get enough sleep, I get migraines, so it kind of defeats the purpose.

I wish i could help answer your question. All I can offer is that when i have migraines or am comming down with one, i can not sleep. I am currently stuck in a migraine cycle that is lasing almost a month right now. I was just put on Depakote for my matainance med.
Good luck, i hope you can find an answer.

Thank you. I am sorry about your month-long migraine cycle. That really stinks! I deal with a lot of tension pain in the shoulders, neck, and head, but I also get migraines, so I definitely understand what you are going through. The tension pain is non-stop and has been for three months now. The migraines come and go. It seems that the Topamax has helped some.

It didn't really dawn on me until yesterday that it could be the Topamax causing me sleep issues since it seems to be consistent that I am waking up like this. I can't really think what else could be doing it. I was recently put on nortriptyline to help me with my pain and sleeping. I've been on that for a week-and-a-half and I haven't noticed any difference. I am thinking about stopping the Topamax for a week or so to see if my sleep patterns change. At this point I am only on 50 mgs.

Hi Holmesla - when you read patient info handouts for Topamax, sleep disturbances are a noted side effect.

It's also one that I can relate to - I never sleep well, but since increasing my Topamax (I'm on 200mg a day for neuropathic pain) I crash out at about 1am and wide awake again by 3am without fail every time.

CRPS since 1999, diagnosed in 2005 and since spread to full body, spasms, dystonia & contractures, gastroparesis, orthostatic hypotension,bradycardia/tachycardia, bone spurs, bursitis, carpal tunnel syndrome.

On Oxycontin/Endone, Topamax, Mobic, Magnesium, Florinef, Midodrine, Somac, Cipramil. Have a spinal cord stimulator, intrathecal pump with baclofen & bupivacaine and doing physio.
