my back has has hurt for about 15 years but about 3 months ago I was lying in bed and a pain came over me so so bad in my back and my leg I was on the floor screeming for a few hours.it felt like my hip was broken.I could not take the pain any more so I took one of my wife hydrocodones she has rsd in her foot. The pain calmed down enough to go to sleep when I woke up the pain was still there, and is still there now.I went to the hospital and got an mri and it showed 2 slightly bulging discs but they said everything looked good openings or whatever I could barely pay attention with the pain level.I started taking 4 hydrocodone a day but was still in to much pain so I went back to the doctor and he gave me time realease morphine.I took it for 2 weeks but it did nothing for the pain so I went back to the hydrocodone. So the pain managment team at the VA sent me to talk to the PT doctor and he he talked to me for 2 minutes and said he thought I had myofacial pain.He didn't even explain what that was,I had to go home and look it up on the internet.Thats how some people roll at the va ,others are great ,its a crap shoot.the people on the pain managment team are really nice ,thank god as I read in other postings this could have gone a lot worse.I have an appointment to see the shot doctor on the 19th.I'm willing to try anything.I cant even ice it because 10 minutes after I take the ice off the pain level gets so bad that I don't really want to go on anymore. The pain in my back, leg and hip are getting worse.I wish I knew what was causing the pain so I had a starting point at fixing it.On the good side I'm still getting around and my wife hasn't left me yet because of my less than sunny disposition

Hi LifeWasGood and welcome to Healing Well's chronic pain forum. I am sorry to hear that you are having so much pain, but that is something we all can relate to here at this forum.

It sounds like from what they told you about your MRI that the two bulging disc are something that does not need surgery on to correct. Many people have bulging disc and have no idea they are there until they have some sort of an accident or trauma. Then they end having a MRI and there is it big as life and they had no idea. Turning over wrong in a bed can set things off, or even lifting a gallon of milk can cause major back problems, it just does not take much to set it rolling into action.

It sounds like the drs are doing what any other dr would and that's conservative care, medications, physical therapy and some drs do injections. Many times a good physical therapist can really do a person good but it takes time and will not happen over night. Some people will say it is a waste of time and it really is not, some are folks are not always motivated enough to give it a fair shake. I have done a lot of physical therapy in my life time too. I think its reasonable to assume since you have a long history of back pain it is going to take some time to get you back up on your feet real good so this may be a long haul situation, the thing is don't give up.

Take care of yourself and keep us posted on how you are coming along.
