mad  has anyone ever heard of using a cervical epidural for numbing purposes to ease rsd pain ?????i've had one injection from my nuerosurgeon . even with local anest., it felt like two very fat hot knitting needles were shoved into my spinal cord in between my shoulder blades . the theory is that when the correct site is mad FINALLY found (after i have no idea how many tries), that my clavicle and surrounding areas , where my rsd is will be numb or nearly numb for several weeks . the trick is that noone knows what the magic spot is without poking and prodding . i've decided to give it two more tries . the first one did nothing but cause pain at the injection site and deep muscle spasms covering my entire upper back and neck for approx . three weeks . i would like to know if anyone has an opinion on this type of treatment ....thanx

I'm not entirely sure why there needs to be multiple poking and prodding as I have had an epidural towards the top of my spine in attempts to help with my pain by using bupivacaine and other anesthetics/pain medications. The epidural was put in while I was in the hospital due to my pain levels being outta control and I had it in for 2 days before the top anesthesiologist and neurologist of the hospital saw no improvement/help from it even with upped doses so they referred me to a special pain hospital in philly. Every poke and prod done with whatever there trying to do to you is an increased chance for your RSD to spread as well as increase your pain. I can only hope this does not increase your pain or cause spread. I don't know why they don't just do an epidural treatment like I mentioned above to see if that helps you and if so then the getting a pain pump would be your next step. Wishing you better less painful days ahead!
