Dr. Oz today did a show about chronic pain... I cried during the entire segment.... just because it helps to have someone educate the public and the medical community... and understanding.

I found the show very interesting and saddened to hear of stories of Dr's dismissing patients.

If you get the chance, info about the show is on his website.

C3 through C7 right open door laminoplasty, C2 through C10 hemilaminectomies, C2 through C7 right forminotomy, and left C5 through C7 foraminotomies, C3-C5 structural rib allograft and local vertebral autograft & C7 with the same allograft & local verterbral autograft & Vertex instrumentation C3-C5

I did not watch it today as it's an hour show and he never does the whole
hour dedicated to one subject, which is not a long enough time for a good
chronic pain discussion...if he did a whole week worth of shows on
Chronic pain, then maybe he'd find out how hard it is to get good doctors and good
treatments....one of those live a week in my shoes type thing, by tomorrow
people will have forgotten his show and life goes on, eh...

Hi,
It's been a long time since I posted, but I wanted to come mention Dr. Oz's show and saw Draka had already taken care of that.

I have to say, though, I'm with Chartreux (hi, Chart!). Although I was tearing up during the first part of the segment, and was SO hopeful he'd do the full hour considering all the promos he did about the topic in advance of the show, I felt "dismissed" (word used accurately on the show to describe how many doctors treat CPP's) yet again when he cut the topic off at the knees by rushing through it. He had some great professionals on, including an M.D. who also was a CPP, and could have done a lot to help our cause had he gone into more depth. He had an audience filled with CPP's. I wonder how they felt today seeing how the show was edited.

Still, it's better than nothing, I guess. Maybe we should flood Dr. Oz with e-mail about our views.

A special hello to all those who remember who I am!

I meant to watch Dr oz today, and forgot and went shopping with Jerome. I guess I'll go to his website and see what I can find. I thought mhe was doing the whole show on that. I'm disappointed even though I didn't see the show.

Hi PaLady. It's good to see you. How are you?

Dr Oz, Dr Phil, Dr Drew and all my current doctors can (Snipped)... Do you think any one of them if they lived with debilitating daily pain would not run to a PM that would RX relief immediately. Mad. Bitter. Yep.

Post snipped due to inappropriate wording.

Draka -

I just watched the Dr. Oz show; I had it DVR'd (which I do to all my shows and watch them at night when I can't sleep). I liked how Dr. Oz showed the "visual" of how our brains get accustomed to pain - and even if the pain improves - our brains are still getting those signals.

It was only an hour and I thought it covered as much as possible in that time. I also think it would be a good idea to leave feedback at the show's website.

PaLady,

I don't think anyone was thinking you were "hijacking" Draka's post. I think there were just members expressing genuine feelings about seeing your post again. Many of our posts these days cover multiple subjects. Anyhow, I wish you well... I don't know if you continue to read or what, but - as you can tell - there are those that would like to hear how you are and such.

Momto8kids....

I did write to the show and shared my personal experience, as well as thanking him for bringing some light to the subject... yes, I would have liked the show to be longer on the topic... but it was something!

For over 10 years I have been complaining of neck pain.... my Dr. at the time (a male) always told me to take Advil and sent me home... I specifically remember crying to him twice... I was in so much pain I couldn't move my head... this would last for days.... finally, he ordered a MRI and sent me to an orthopedic to read the films... this Dr. (also a male) told me nothing was wrong with me... and that he could take any person off the street and they too would have disc herniations... he told me I was in shape and again, nothing was wrong with me.

Finally, I switched to a female Dr. about 3 years ago and everything changed... she actually listened to me... sent me for MRI's again it had been 7 years since the last one.... she was furious when she got the results... comparing them to my other MRI she told me my condition should have never been left untreated.... my pain management Dr. was also upset about what I was told years ago... my neck was a complete wreck and both MRI's showed a pinched nerve... and severe damage....

The reason I mention my male Dr's is that Dr. Oz said the women are less likely to be treated for pain... this was exactly my case... I was also young and in great physical shape....it just makes me really angry that two Dr.'s dismissed me for so long.

I remember breaking down crying when I was finally told I had reason to be in constant pain... it was not at all in my head...

Draka...

I'm going to write, too, when I get a chance.

I think what they said about women doctors IS very true, unfortunately. That being said - all my current docs (whom I love) are men. So, go figure. But, yes, I think a lot of men docs think "ahhh, they are just hormonal... have depression... are worn out from raising kids... " etc. (I know this is stereotypical, but even Dr. Oz admitted it to be true).

I've got a crush on Dr. Oz :) I just think he is so darn smart and I love the way he explains thing - and he's funny :) (that was an off-topic comment - but had to add). Give me someone who is smart and funny - and I adore them....haha.

Gotta run; my babies are sick w/ colds and fussy as all get out. AND my pain is outrageous today.... I think there is a correlation!

I have had chronic back pain for 4 years. It is debilitating, controls my life, and makes me think bad thoughts that normally I wouldn't. I have had one good bone doctor that has kept up my pain meds over the years and recently gave up on me and said you are going to have to go to a pain management dr. I have never realized how awful people treat you and the lack of compassion they have for someone who deals with chronic pain. I have had multiple MRIs a bone scan and now this new doctor wants to do radiofrequency ablation on my facet nerves and I am freaked out. I know it's risky expensive and might not help if anything sometimes makes pain worse. He won't keep up my pain meds either. I told him I was scheduled to have laparoscopy and he joked to the nurse while I was getting an EMG " can you believe they are doing a laparoscopy and hysterectomy" and I started crying and said I never said a hysterectomy. I have high hopes that this will finally show the cause of my back pain. (endometriosis) he said that isn't what is causing my pain and it would cause more scarring. If it gives me a couple years I would give my right leg. I can't take this pain anymore and I am sick of getting the run around. I have had 3 facet pain blocks and 2 were unsuccessful. Am I the only person going through this does every doctor not care. All tests show I am healthy. I have hade a small kidney stone and 2 half dollar sized ovarian cysts all on left side that are unrelated to my back pain. Here lately every new medication I try makes my heart beat irregular. Too young to have back pain is my official diagnosis is what I've heard.
