Does anyone know when the patent for this drug runs its course? I am so ready for a price adjustment for when the generics can get in the game.

The patent expires on April, 2013, then it can go generic

Hi djack!

And welcome to Healing Well. If I may add a comment here about patents. Oxycontin, and I would guess others, has more than one patent on it. Plus they also apply for patents over the years that covering other characteristics of the drug. Purdue Pharma just reformulated Oxycontin last year and I believe with that comes new patents and extended dates for those. Often companies who are trying to fight off competition will make a very slight change in their desired product and then apply for a new patent thus extending the day that anyone can produce their product. And in this case Purdue Pharma has a very nasty reputation for not only fighting dirty and seem to be continually in court either suing someone or being sued by individuals, companies and the Federal government. Do a search on Purdue Pharma and it will more than open your eyes. Did mine.
