Hi, I have a question for anyone to answer.  I have been seeing a neurologist for migraine headaches and dizziness, off-balance problems, vertigo.  He wants me to start taking a Medrol Dose Pack (steroids) I believe for 6 days.  I have never taken any kind of steroids before.  And, recently I ended up in the ER and found out that I have gallstones, so my doctor wants me to have Gallbladder surgery.  My question is:  How long does steroids stay in your system and will it effect me if I have gallbladder surgery while it is still in my system?

Hi Dab and welcome to the chronic pain forum. I am somewhat familiar with Medrol Dose Pack and some of its uses. I suggest that you speak with the neurologist about this, or perhaps call your pharmacist. Either one should be able to answer your question on how long it will stay in your system. I know sometimes people are given steroids after surgery, but to be safe call the dr.

Good luck on your pending gall bladder surgery. I had mine taken out in 2002 and I know how sick it can make you feel.

As for migraines you do have my sympathy. I have them and passed them on to both of my children. My son really has them bad but he can keep them under fair control if he gets his medication taken in time. He is on Imitrex.

Anyway, I wanted to pop on and tell you welcome aboard and please do call your dr about your question. Better to be safe about this, as none of us here are drs. Take care.
