Hi
Just wondering if anyone has had mixed results with nerve blocks. I've had several before which did little to nothing but at least didn't make things worse. I went for a shot 2 weeks ago because my doctor wanted me to try it again and because this doctor uses an x-ray to guide him which none of the others did. The shot really hurt a lot more than any of the others did. I was hoping that maybe that was because he hit the right spot, however since having the shot things certainly aren't any better and I'm sure that the pain is worse. I'm scheduled to have another shot this Friday and am really on the fence about getting it. Really scares me to have things get any worse as I'm already at my limit of being able to deal with the pain even with pain meds. I also have a foot problem that will require surgery and has become very painful and difficult to walk. Just wondering if anyone else has had these shots and had the first shot not work well and had the second work well. I really don't know what to think or do at this point. Any advice would really be appreciated. Thanks.

The only time I've had nerve blocks was for diagnostic purposes to find the correct nerve for radiofrequency ablation where they deaden a nerve with a heated needle. Not sure why your doctor would just be doing nerve blocks for pain relief. If your doctor is not using any type of anesthesia I'm sure it did hurt. I'd be requesting some!

If I were you I'd research nerve block injections more so you thoroughly understand what the doctor is doing and why then have a return visit with your doctor to discuss his reasoning behind these injections before having anymore. It is your choice but it is always better when you understand exactly what a procedure is, why it is being done and what outcome is expected.

Keep us updated on how everything goes. Don't be worried about asking your doctor questions, he should want you to be well informed.

Thank you both for your input. I got a call today that they cancelled my appointment which I wasn't to upset about. Gives me more time to get some more information. Thanks again.

Glad you have more time to think it over, call and ask your
doctor if anything else can be tried??? and save up and get your
foot taken care of first....I think at this point getting your foot
taken care of should be your first priority...Many well wishes
and keep us posted we do care...

Thanks for the support Chart.
My foot surgery isn't a matter of saving up because I live in Canada and it's all free plus I have very good insurance. It's a matter of being scared that things won't work out as they have in many other surgeries I've had. I've had 11 so far and you might think it would get easier but works the other way around. I just can't handle having another surgery go wrong
Thanks for the support your a good friend.
