I've been diagnosed with Osteoporosis and the doctor wants me to take Fosamax. I've read some on the medicine and I'm not liking what I'm reading. Does anyone here take it?

Hi Potsie pretty much all of the meds for osteoporosis have the same potential of possible side effects. But, this falls in line with any medication we take. I have been on several of these meds as I too have osteoporosis of the entire lumbar spine. What I have ran into is some drs say take the prescription meds for it but then some say to take calcium and vitamin D. So, its a mixed bag from what I have seen so far. Some drs think the meds are great for it and some say no. I guess you know these meds do not cure it, they hope the meds will slow down the progression of the disease.

Take care.

Hi Potsie,

Stray beat me to it! Like she said, all the osteoporosis meds tend to have similar side effects. I do know quite a lot about Fosamax and osteoporosis drugs in general though - what is it that you're concerned about?

I have osteoporosis of my spine. I'm not on Fosamax - my doc has actually prescribed Prolia (a monoclonal antibody) for me, but for various reasons I've not had the injections yet.

I've not had this diagnosis, but if I were you, I would google the medicine
and read up on everything about it, then maybe give it a try, sure hope
you don't get any reactions to this medicine and I hope it can be very
helpful for you. I am love on Vitamins D and B-12 and I supplement those,
However, I do not take added calicum...many many well wishes and do keep
us posted, we truly do care...Hope you can get a low pain day soon....
