I am new here, finding a site that is not over a year or more old has been a pretty big challenge. My name is Theresa, I have been a chronic pain survivor for 12 years. It started with C sections, moving on to hysterectomy, laproscopy, laprotomy to remove scar tissue, suffered from chronic diverticulitis, had a left coloctomy, then ventral hernia repair that had to be removed due to mrsa. A third large mesh implant to cover the holes left. I have suffered paralytic ilius a few times since, knock on wood its been two years with no hospitalization. My chronic pain is due to nerve damage, scar tissue, and the constant irration, yanking, and mild discomforts of the large mesh. And unknown reasons by most medical professionals where I live. Like many other people, it took me forever to be treated seriously, in the beginning I begged to try things that were not opiods. I discovered through this that it did not matter, you are labeled a drug seeker no matter if you beg not to take them or take them. I have a great physician, and I go to a pain clinic. I was taking 60 Mg of methadone a day. 20mg twice a day. It made me so sick. On Christmas I stopped. Its been rough, my pain specialist has asked me to try and go 20 more days without anything to allow my body to take a break, which struck me as kind of funny because it is going through all kinds of hell. I hang onto the moments of smaller amounts of pain. I rely on family.I pray. During the small moments of limited comfort I often find myself counting the minutes until it ends which is not helping matters so I have started to relax through and meditate through those times and slowly they last a little longer. My pain specialist tried to give me the big "You can do IT!" pep talk. I wanted to throw my shoe at him even though I completely understand his reasons and even agree, but I am not looking forward to living his idea.
I have one adult daughter and one 16 year old son and one granddaughter that we all work to raise. My boyfriend is my rock, the one I can count on for anything even something that might seem stupid but he will do it if for some reason it helps.
I lay in bed for the most part, play online games with my family, read, knit. That is my life.

Maybe use this time to make a journel that you can take with you to your
next pain management appointment, so that they know exactly whats going on
and maybe ask about physical therapy as it can help, or if you can try aqua therapy
maybe ask about that...do keep us posted. many prayers and well wishes being sent to you...

Hi Theresa and welcome aboard. You said you stopped taking Methadone I believe Christmas Day, are you talking going cold turkey or a taper. I do hope its a taper, Methadone can be a very difficult drug to get away from. I know of some that were not able to get off of it. I do hope that your dr has given you some medication to help with the withdrawals, as there are meds available to help with that. No patient should ever be put thru withdrawals.

Does your dr plan on putting you on another medication to help with the pain? You mentioned nerve pain, are you on any of the meds like Neurotin, Cymbalta, Lyrica to just name a few that help with nerve pain? If not you may want to ask your dr about something that helps with nerve pain. The usual pain meds really are not all that effective for nerve pain.

Please keep us posted on how you are coming along. Take care.

I was on a methadone taper, cold turkey off 5mg a day. I have gone cold turkey off 40, this was faster but no less stressful. My PD wants me to take a twenty day break off everything. He has suggested the new 7 day patch. I do want some research on that before agreeing. After methadone, I want to be so careful. It made me very sick. I was not in pain, but I was never out of bed either. One day at a time. Tonight is better. I pray so will tomorrow be.

Theresa I do hope you can get past this and quickly. I take it your dr did not bother giving you anything to help with the withdrawals effects, there is no excuse for that. You may want to try some OTC stuff is you are having problems with diarhrea and cramping, its important to stay well hydrated. I get so aggravated at drs that are so insensitive to their patients, I wish they could go thru withdrawals and see how it feels.

What is the 7 day patch you were speaking of? Anything has to be better than Methadone in my book. Yes, its cheap and it works well for some people in pain but it should only be used as a last resort in my book. Just my opinion.

Keep us posted on how you are doing.

Today was rough, tried to cut through to the mesh and.. you know I just am not sure what the hell I was thinking. Stop the pain. Alternating Motrin and Tylenol. Useless. Tylenol PM helps but I truly hate how it makes me feel. I raise my grandaughter she is 4, the family finally realized how desperate I was for rest and took her off my hands. This both hurts me in my heart but gives me rest. THe Fiance was a bit put out with me, but also understands and forgives me for this mornings desperation.
There is soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much guilt when you can not take care of your family. I know it seems cold of my PM to give me the break from meds. He promised me he would see me if I can not take it any longer. That was today but they do not have after hour help. Waiting until Monday.

This is probably why I am taking a opiod vacation. Medicaid will never pay for this.

If any needs help finding the sites for help with paying for their meds I seem to be gifted in finding them :)
