rolleyes   rolleyes   I updated this to see if anyone would be willing to read and make suggestions on the UDS (drug test) inconsistencies.  Please take the time to read and give some imput if you can.  I've also reduced some of the length to help with reading. rolleyes rolleyes

I recently had Trigger Point injections for the first time. They injected plain marcaine (sp?).  It was painful, to say the least, but nothing like the pain of the RFA.  I have another RFA at the end of March.

I was sore, but found they did stop the muscle spasms.  I can honestly say I was at a 2 on the pain scale for a little while.  It's been forever since I was a 2 for even a minute.  **That's over now**

They did another drug screen before the injections and again I had a very strange result.  Apparently there had been others like me (who's meds did not show up in the in-office stick tests) so they started using a different outside lab.  Just as the first outside lab did, this one showed I had not used my xanax in 2-5 days!  I have NO idea why!  I use it every day (3 mg controlled release) every morning between 7:30 and 8:00 AM.  I had even taken it as scheduled that day.  The test was about three hours after taking the regular dose.  I have NEVER missed a dose!

The PM was not concerned he does not prescribe the xanax, but I contacted my psych (who I saw yesterday) and let the office know what happened again.  Since this is the second time, I kind of wanted to know what is really going on.  If anybody has any ideas, I would love to hear them.

I omitted my torsemide (a BP med/water pill) that AM since I felt this may be why my urine was too dilute and not showing my meds correctly.  Apparently tesing validity was a problem in-office, which is the main reason they said they changed procedures.  They also said to tell the new lab that I could not afford to pay the balance if I was billed.  The office said the lab had made the agreement to write of any balance a patient said they could not pay as part of the agreement with the PM to use them.

If anybody had any ideas on why my meds are still not showing up correctly, I would appreciate the info!!

If trigger point injections work, then I would think TENS should work also - at least it does for me on my back. I don't get relief from TENS on my brachial biceps, but an injection of steroid did relieve the muscle that had been in spasm for 2 months (post shoulder surgery).

Thanks for the imput, but the TENS doesn't do too much for me personally. Biofreeze is my helper of choice. The injections were painful, but the relief was nice for a few days.

Do you have any idea on the Drug Screen and why my meds don't show? It makes me very uncomfortable because I do take everything as directed....especially xanax.

Thanks!

One issue is what type of test they used -- just another stick test or something more sophisticated like gas chromatography.

Another issue is whether they detected NO metabolites from the xanax or just that the levels were low. By saying that you had not used your xanax in 2-5 days, that suggests the latter -- and such an assessment is odd, given the possibility that your torsemide (even the prior day's) may have diluted your urine.

Did they use a test that measure ppm? Or just a positive/negative? If the former, it shows your use, I presume, just that the measurement is low (and there can be many explanations); if the latter, they how could they give you a range like 2-5 days?

Sorry the trigger points didn't work. I found mine in Oct helpful and still am benefiting. You might want to explicitly ask for a steroid plus an anesthetic next time.

Current meds: Ultram ER 300mg daily, breakthrough - hydrocodone 10-15mg, or oxycodone 5-7.5mg. .25-.5mg ativan as needed for sleep, Verapamil 240mg SR (for tachycardia). [/gray

Thank you Cogito!

The test was sent out to a lab, but I did notice where they tested for specific gravity, PH levels, and Creatin levels as well as everything else. I hadn't considered the issue of the torsemide making a difference if taken the day before since it is relatively short acting, but that may be the answer. I know the stick test didn't even show the dilaudid at all (before when I was taking it...but did show it on the re-test). I take oxy IR now and that showed up perfectly (as well as the Ultracet, the Soma, the Ambien and any othr meds they tested for-- with the exception of the xanax. It did show some, but no where near the correct levels for the amount I take. The nurse also said others were having the same problem with meds not showing on the stick test.

I'm sorry, but I don't know if they tested ppm or not...I'm not from a medical background and only know what I could see on the paper they gave me. I really would like an answer from them or from the psych who prescribes it and I honestly appreciate you taking to time to give me some feedback!!!

I have had a problem with the different generic companies who make the Xanax CR/XR/ER (depending on the company). Basically, the 3 mg comes in green or pink (depending on the generic company) and the green has virtually no effect on me at all. The other company's product does seem to work. Perhaps the problem is actually something to do with the product I am receiving rather than how I am taking it...since I take it exactly as directed. The only other thing I can think of is that I take both Dexilant and Zantac 150 daily too. The Dexilant is in the AM and the Zantac is in the PM. I have had the Nissen Fundoplication, but it failed misserably and it is essential that I take these meds to keep the acid from burning my esophogus. I have taken about everything on the spectrum and have other meds when it gets so bad that I'm choking on acids, but perhaps it is causing absorbtion problems or something like that. I have something else to take that is supposed to relax the flat muscles, but I have yet to take it for fear of overmedication with all of the other things.

With regards to the injections: I am allergic to the steroids, so they won't give me anything like that, but my PM says that they have been doing studies and have found that the steroids do not cause a significant difference in the success of the procedure....so they don't use them anymore. I did get the relief for a short period, by the RFA is so much better (and so much more painful to get)!

Thank you again for your reply!
