I have had pain in the vulva/vagina area for six years and I can deal with most of it reasonably well. But the scariest part is sometimes I wake up in the night and the pain is so intense that I can`t move and I feel paralysed. I can move if I try so I`m not really paralysed but because the pain is so intense it`s like I`m in a trance and it`s too much effort to move. I know that all I need to do is get up and take medication and it will go away but when it`s that bad I am thinking I need to get up but it`s like my brain can`t register and act on the thought. So when it`s this bad I suffer for a long time before I can move. One time it took me at least two hours to get up. Does anyone else have similar attacks of pain? If you have any tips on how to deal with it I`d be very grateful. The first pain specialist I saw told me to put the fast acting medication beside the bed and the next one told me to try hypnotherapy. I think the first idea is better but even when I put the medication beside the bed I can`t reach it as I can`t move due to the pain. I feel like when this happens maybe I need to go to the emergency ward but it`s too much effort to go and explain my situation again when it usually calms down after I get up.
It`s scary as I live alone.
I hope your pain is not so bad today. Love Di

      Hello di43!

Here is a link that may give you a possibility to look at with your frozen body experience when you awake. I believe it's called sleep paralysis. Discuss this with your Dr and see what he thinks about it.

cry I have vulvodynia, I am assuming that is what you have as well? I have not experienced pain like you are explaining, but I do get sharp pains occasionally- they will come on out of the blue and feel like someone is stabbing me down there. They can last anywhere from about 5 seconds to a couple of minutes and they are debilitating. It seems to happen to me a lot when I am driving and I'm surprised I have not lost control of my car from them- knocks on wood. What medication do you take for the pain? I am on Paxil and Hydroxyzine for Interstitial Cystitis and they keep the vulvodynia pretty well under control. I take pain pills for other ailments, but not for the vulvodynia. I have tried several medicated creams that don't do a thing for me. This is what seems to help me: wearing only cotton underwear and using summer's eve sensitive wash- if I am having an itching attack I use St. Ive's oatmeal and shea butter wash- the oatmeal really helps with the itching. I'm sorry about what you are going through- that has to be really rough. I hope things improve for you soon! *hugs*
