Hi Healing Well family,
I see that I've missed a lot in my absence! The past month has been really crazy, busy, happy, and sad all at the same time. We moved to a new city, our house is under contract (yay!), and we went on an amazing trip to Costa Rica.
Costa Rica was really an amazing experience. I didn't know how I would do, but I went into it feeling pretty good physically, and so I sort of just put my pain aside and decided I would try and have a grand adventure! I definitely did - I got to do some cycling and we even hiked 5 miles one day. None of this would have been possible without the great treatment I got from my PT in November and December. Before the trip, I finally, after about a year of deliberation, bought a folding cane. I brought it with me and that's how I was able to make it through two hiking trips. The second hike, around the top of a volcano, was slow going, but it felt so good to be out DOING things.
Upon my return though, I have really paid the price in a fibromyalgia flare of epic proportions. The physical stress of the Costa Rica trip coupled with the mental and emotional stress of the move/selling the house/ending work finally took its toll. My walking is still good, but I ache all over. I feel like I have severe arthritis in my hands and need lots of help because of it. I'm pretty sure someone with arthritis or fibromyalgia invented the electric can opener!
Aside from the pain, I have been struggling some with anxiety and depression related to moving and finding a new job. DW is so patient...she helped me to figure out some ways to feel better and make sure I have a sense of accomplishment each day. So right now just feels like one foot in front of the other until the anxiety/depression monster releases its grip on me.
Now that I'm back around my computer with some regularity, I'll check in more and hopefully keep up with everyone and get to know the new folks on the board.
