Mindfulness was not a term I was familiar with when I was diagnosed with chronic illness 17 years ago. Looking back, I wish I had known more about how to practice it in my life. It would have saved me a lot of worry, distress, and hopelessness. I've since learned that mindfulness is a set of skills for healing, intuition, insight, calmness, focus, resilience, and hope that you can use to counter the inevitable adversity of chronic illness.

Thanks so much for taking the time to share this with everyone. I've read on mindfulness and think the concept is a useful one, but I've not taken the time to get myself to be more 'into it'. I think it may just be the right time and you've given me the incentive to get going.

Thanks and hugs,

Thanks for sharing this Peter. Mindfulness is an invaluable tool for me and I simply would have no hope at all of managing my pain without it.

I notice that Peter has provided some links, but a couple of good books are 'Full Catastrophe Living' by Jon Kabat-Zinn, which is about using Mindfulness to help manage chronic pain, chronic illness, etc., and though it relates more to depression than CP, 'A Mindful Way Through Depression' is another useful one. F-C-L also comes with a good mindfulness CD.
