I have spent a a lot of time trying to find a site where people with injuries similar to mine can ask and respond to questions mostly related to PROBLEMS with there illness. There are many great sites, with inspiring stories, and wonderful people to share your progress with, but almost every spinal cord injury patient I have met is like me, POSITIVE attitude and know where to go but FORWARD! and absolutely NO whining allowed!
I understand that not every paraplegic has problems with severe pain and I've also discovered that as time passes and there spinal cord shrinks, and they heal, they tend to forget or block out the problems they had in there first few years.
And, unfortunately most of the people I meet don't feel comfortable talking about there issues in person. I love the way this site is set up and I hope it will encourage everyone and especially experienced people, with older injuries to help us "newbies" get through a really tough period.
It has been a little over 2 years since an accident left me paralyzed from the chest, down. I am diagnosed as a t6/t7 complete paraplegic. I also suffered multiple breaks, punctured lungs and many fractures, along with permanent injury to the frontal lobe of my brain.
Despite all of THAT, after a long 2 years of partial rehabilitation, I am now back working again, running my own company and doing most of the things I did before.
I have come to the conclusion that spinal cord injuries are like snowflakes ! And if I'm not happy with the way I'm feeling, all I have to do is wait 12 hours and for better or worse, my condition will change. I have so many questions about what is going on with my body and some of the things I can do to help myself. I welcome all post ! and Thanks to everyone.

Hi t6t7c~~

Welcome to the Chronic Pain family and I'm so glad you have joined us. I too came here in pain, totally different from yours, but down in the trenches pain just hurt and messes with our lives. Being able to talk openly to others who have walked in our shoes is better than any shrink, IMHO.

I am so very sorry about your accident but after reading through you post I have a great respect and admiration for you. There is no way I would have as great an attitude as you do. Still working and running your own company??? That's amazing in itself.

One thing we do allow in here is a bit of whining. But for some reason it seems to be self limiting. Once in a while I feel we all need a good cry, to be able to shout and bang our head against a tree or however we choose to vent the frustration and hurt.....as long as we're not hurting others of course. Since others here know your feelings the empathy is sincere. Somewhere in all of that our spirits seem to lift again and we're able to go on and enjoy our lives, such as they are.

I look forward to getting to know you and I'm sure you'll have a lot to share with others who are also suffering from back injuries. I have a collapsed disk at L5/S1 and it gives me pain down my legs. It's not the primary cause of my pain, that comes from fibromyalgia. But after reading your story I feel fortunate that I have many parts that still work as well as they do. wink

Warm hugs,
Chutz
