Hello, I am not sure what is going on here and thought this may be the best forum to address my problem.

It began one week ago as a dull pain in my lower right abdomen and general nausea with decreased appetite. Since it has spread to my genital region (above/behind right testicle) and into my flank and back under the right rib cage. I have not had a fever or vomiting. The pain is deep and dull/crampy in nature. I do feel some pressure when I urinate now in the area next to and above my genitals, and the side pain is stronger when standing.

I went to the hospital on the 3rd day who did blood/urine work and a CT scan which showed no problems with kidneys, appendix and no UTI. Next day I saw my doctor for hernia and testicle check when the pain in that area increased, which was ok. He suspected constipation after reviewing hospital notes, and said to take laxatives and tylenol. I did so, however, the problem persists, and seems to be getting worse, or at least not going away.

Could what I am experiencing be simply constipation related? I would think it would move or subside if so? Has anyone else felt something similar?

     Good morning SeanH!

        Welcome to our forum! wink

Sorry to hear of your pain! Were not Dr's here, but will support you as needed. One thing you might try for the constipation would be Prunes....they are all natural...and should help. Also stick with a high fiber diet if possible, and if your problem persist, then by all means get in to the Dr, and don't let this problem go too far. There is always a chance of a twisted gut....and that can be very serious to say the least.

Make sure you keep plenty of fluids down....and if you do not see a difference in bowel movement...then as I said get back in to your Dr immediately.

Please check back in with us, as it may help others who may be experiencing this same issue, and they may benefit from your information.

      Take care,

Screaming Eagle gave good advise try the prunes, and don't stay on the laxatives for long as they
can make things worse, if your not feeling better soon and the pain is getting worse then get back into your doctor
as soon as possible....

Thank you both for the reply. I saw my doctor early this morning. When I saw him earlier in the week he said he'd prescribe some antibiotics if I don't improve later in the week. He asked me to come in before prescribing anything, and gave me an abdominal xray. His review showed the same thing: constipation, and he suggested going in the other way with the laxative to clean myself out and see what happens.

I also had an appointment with a urologist this afternoon, as a referral from the GI doctor. He gave me the usual urine work up, checked my genital region, and did a bladder scan. All were fine. He gave me a prescription for a pain medicine and cipro, to see if the pain is bacterial related.

Meanwhile the pain has subsided a little today. But the area under the ribs and towards the shoulder blade in the back have been more bothersome than in the past week.

I am going to attempt the digestive cleansing process with the suppositories this evening. Hopefully that helps. I've also began with the cipro.

Morning SeanH!

I hope you can get things straightened out there with the constipation problems. I wanted to remind you,... and make sure you understand the importance of a well balanced diet with plenty of fibre in it. Look up fibre diet on the web for some good suggestions on it. Also…I really think it's important…but not sure what the norm is…but I believe a person should have one good bowel movement each day. It's a possibility that if your going 48hrs or so without one….then it's a good indication that fibre may be needed…and again remember to drink plenty of water.

I actually have been eating better of late. This time last year I really ratcheted up and started exercising. I was 255 at the start of 2011 and I weigh 203 this AM. I was 210 at the beginning of this month though. But my eating has been reduced the last 8 days. I started taking a fiber supplement in February which, until this began, had really improved my output. I've never had a problem going daily. My problem has been more of the sometimes it's loose sometimes I have to push to get it out. The doctor had suspected IBS recently before all this pain started, which led me to the fiber, which had produced about as "normal" of bowl movements as I've ever had until this began. My stool today has been quite loose, falling apart once it hits the toilet. Though I did start the cipro and go through with the suppository laxative treatment last night.

Today the pain is more in the area around the lower right rib cage and down towards the waist. I'm worried a lot about a blockage or something like that in that part of the colon. Wouldn't that have shown in the CT scan or x-ray (I was not given barium for the x-ray) though?

I also have a colonoscopy scheduled for April 6, but on Monday AM I'm going to try to move it up. Hopefully this discomfort has subsided by then, but either way I want to know what is going on in there.

….if you have a colonoscopy scheduled, then don't worry, they will give you something to clean you all the way out. Trust me on this…stick close to a toilet after you drink this stuff….it can pack a quick and powerful response when you least expect it to. wink

let's see what your test reveal…and then come back and give us a report.

Good luck, and Thanks for sharing!
