Welcome to the boards...Sorry you are having such trouble with pain...

That is definitely a very serious medication that have a lot of possible serious side effects...

Have they tried other modalities or other medications? Or is this the first thing....

Are you seeing a Neurologist who diagnosed you and is prescribing this and how long have you been taking it?

Sorry for the questions....just curious and to get to know you better...

Obviously myself and others are NOT Drs. on here....we are just other pain patients...So nothing we say is medical advice....Just seeing where you are in your journey...

We can certainly empathize....Having such chronic pain...no matter where it's coming from or what type....it's very difficult to live with:(

Others will be along to welcome you....although it can get a bit quiet on the boards over the weekend....And sometimes many will read a post but are also having a really bad pain day and can't post themselves at the moment...

But we do care!!! Sending hugs (( ))

     Hello Amy!

Welcome!  ...when I see this kind of plea in a post and the extreem pain your in...my answer is to call your Dr ASAP!...and if you cannot get ahold of them....then head to the ER.

Your condition sounds very serious and the pain is more than intense by your description...I hope you get medical attention soon.

Let us know how it turns out...and you are always welcome here for support....however we are not Dr's here. Bottom line is...you need a medical professional to help you now.

 Good Luck!

All we can really suggest is to find another Dr. and try some other medications....Again...none of us can really say what type of treatment you should do...

We truly empathize and can "hear" the desperation and pain you are in...

So...hopefully first thing Monday morning you can call around and make another appt. with a new Dr. to get another set of eyes...

Have you told this Dr. that the medicine is not working at all?

As SE mentioned...if you need to...then head to the Emergency room....(I'm thinking you are not in the US?)....

Hi Amygirl, I wanted to welcome you aboard. So glad you found us but very sorry you are suffering so much. I hope you will stick with us. The members are very understanding, supportive and non judgemental. We all suffer from some sort of chronic pain.
I have heard that the pain from TN is quite horrific. How long have you had it and what have you tried so far. I'll include a link that talks about some forms of treatments. Several meds are mentioned, not sure if you have tried others besides the tegretol. That seems to be the med of choice for TN, but my guess is that it needs enough time to get peak levels in your system.
Myself I suffer with continuous severe headaches so i understand your cries for help with your pain. My has been going on for twelve years with nothing even touching this pain.

Come and post whenever you can. We are here to support you.

Try finding a neurologist that specializes in TN. In the meantime
maybe consider going to the ER, maybe they could recommend a local
TN specialists...but they might also give you some pain relief...
Sure hope your feeling better soon...keep us postef as we do
truly care, okay..thinking of you, Prayers...
